[map keys] what are the brown circles?

Excuse for the the silly question (and for my bad English too)..

This is my first game ...

The game is amazing but the learning curve is great too ..

What means the brow circles around the system in the bottom of the picture

It means that there is an independent colony on one of the planets

Yep, solid gray circle means an independent colony.
Dashed/broken gray circle means that there is a potential planet that your empire can colonize. The two circles are often related.

I greatly recommend playing through the two tutorial; and browsing the Galactopedia.

Map key is available on the Galaxy map.
