Greetings,
We have a new version of Operation Barbarossa - The Struggle for Russia that we would like to make official, but we would like our Members Club to give it a test drive. It has a few nice additions to look over. This is a Beta version, so please inform us of any issues that may arise.
How to download the Public Beta update:
Register your copy of Operation Barbarossa in our Members Club here:
http://www.matrixgames.com/community/login.asp
Then go to My Games and Private Downloads for Operation Barbarossa and you should find the v1.20 Public Beta. Download it and run the update installer.
Here is the list of changes:
- Three new singleplayer scenarios ("Germany - Berlin 1945", "Germany - Minsk 1941", "Russia - 3rd Battle of Ladoga")
- Additional terrains for creating maps with seas and large lakes.
- Expanded modder possibilities with NATO symbols for Italy and Great Britain.
- New menu for adjusting the speed of mouse button clicks, key clicks and scroll wheel.

Anything in particular that we should check to see if it works as intended?

Looking for crashes, OS compatibility, play with the new adjustment menu, play the new scenarios.
Tell me how to win Lagoda. I got hammered.

If you can beat the Berlin scenario, then Lagoda should be easy.

Hello,
in addition it would be helpful to if you toy around with the editor. The Italian and British troops and the sea fields could be tested as well as the placeholders for modders.
To sum it up, use all new features as heavy as you can and like it and give some feedback if something is odd.
Thanks for the help in advance.

You go to the Members page. Log in. Click my games. It should show OB if you registered it. Click private downloads. You should see OperationBarbarossa-Update-v120beta.exe
Download that somewhere on your computer. As Admin, right click the file and check for unblock. Close and then double click the file to run the installer. Have your serial number ready.

It depends on your security settings for Vista. Sometimes that is the problem. Did you download that file and try to run it? Do you still get the error?

Yes, I had downloaded the file before I wrote the first reply. And the error always came out.
I'm afraid that this is not caused by vista security setting, but some problems with the file itself. I have not run into such problems with the patches before.

Can't install it, I've unblocked as above but still get the following
Error : ActiveX component can't create objects 'WScript.Shell'
Code : 800A01AD
Source : Microsoft VBScript runtime error
Trying to run the game after this gets a runtime error after the configuration screen.
P.S. running under Vista 32 download size 17.761M

Reset the game to run as an Administrator and that seems to have solved it - still don't know why I got the install error

Been using Vista 32 for a while here, don't ever recall having problems like that, but glad you got it working.

After some testing, it seems the Lagoda scenario will be more or less impossible to win against a human opponent, but you can win it against the AI. A lot depends on the weather.
With clouds/rain/fog I wasn't getting anywhere, but on my second try the first turns were sunny with a few fog turns in between and I won on turn 7 with no whole unit losses.
