CONVOYS THAT ALWAYS RUN AWAY

Amphibious landings.
Gentlemen,
I need your help. I have been trying unsuccessful in trying to take Saipan from the dug in Japs. My problem is that I send a huge convoy with an entire division and all their supplies. They land some of them and then for no reason (I have clicked on "remain on station" and "unload", then for some unknown reason the convoy tries to go back to port. MInd you this is after I have bombarded the island with battleships and heavy cruisers for more than one turn.. So I send another convoy loaded to the gills with men and supplies, tell them to remain on station only this time I created the convoy as an amphibious one instead of a transport convoy. AGAIN they unload a small portion of the men and then the convoy tries to go back to Pearl Harbor again. Please also bear in mind that I have a large carrier force attacking the ground forces and the convoys still won't unload. They always try to return to Pearl. No enemy ships nearby either
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks, EMMA388
