Perhaps this can be addressed in a future patch. I find it annoying that when you manually select a colour (instead of blue) there is usually an empire with a very similar colour. How do you solve this issue?
Note in the screenshot below that from the main screen you can't really distinguish the two red empires (I'm the lower one), while you can do that a bit better from the mini map

The main issue here is just that when there are enough empires, there are only so many colors to choose from that show up well on the galaxy map. I'll ask Elliot if we can improve this further.

Thanks for the reply. I understand the difficulty . I really like the fact that there are so many different ai players/empires in the game, but it adds the difficulty of distinguishing them on the map. Dont know if it can be improved. But it would be handy though

I second the motion for more distinction; albeit it need not require the use of colors but different font or caps or...

It's a tough thing, for sure.  Some of the colors don't show up very well on the galaxy backdrop, I've found.  That coupled with the fact it's sometimes tough to distinguish red from dark red makes the main map a total mess at times, depending on who your neighbors are.

So what is the best colour to choose to distinguish yourself most from the other empires?

And please let it not be pink... lol

Maybe a filter wherein you could "switch off" an empires appearance temporarily to help id yours and theirs

You can open editor and click 'edit empires' button on the bottom of its window. There you can edit empire colors.

Never be the Yellow Empire. It makes it impossible for you to see any of the dots associated with the galactic mapper findy thingy. Also, the sensor radius circles are being drawn overlappingly, resulting in very opaque regions.
