Here's a post by Harry Rowland about a new divisional level World in Flames: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/514 ... le-for-pre

ADG's site has it as a P1000 under its products section:http://www.a-d-g.com.au/

It's interesting to note that they have pre-released both a higher level army sized unit game and a smaller divisional sized unit game. Perhaps the next MWIF project will be the ability to switch from game to game by using the mouse wheel - zoom out and the corps combine into armys zoom in and they break up into divisions[:D]. I'm sure Shannon v Okeets will get right on that.

Yes interesting product, I first heared about it back in 2007-2008. I guess it's the 1000 preorder needed who delays it.

I like the idea of pre-ordering, at least exchanging info without paying. I don't see why they don't do it for MWiF. There's a perception that incentive to release = a rushed product with bugs. I'm not buying that, but I know Steve. I don't see how incentive can hurt. Like a big fruit that never spoils, but keeps getting riper and juicier. Plus it would prevent a bottleneck when the game is released.

I just went on the ADG website and they have a sample of the Khaki-In-Flames CW units. I think these will be much more user friendly - I must admit though, I thought Khaki was more of a greeny colour??

As a kid my dad's khaki's (usaf) were a light tancolor.
Dictionary.com has it as:
a light yellowish brown

In the early part of my military service they were still a light brown. I guess it depends on how each country and military branch defines it.

(edit for spelling and grammer)

Well these are certainly a light tan so I must be thinking about something else - thanks.

Africa looks funny

I think they are not using a Mercator projection. This look like the projection use in History of the world. It is a north pole center projection. It should give more realistic distance for the northern hemisphere, especially near the north pole. But distance in the southern hemisphere will be about double. This projection give Africa this unusual (for mercator used people) look.

I might buy this game. But the Wif Master is really a computer game. If won't play it on the table (no time/no place).

Having seen versions of the khaki CW counters in use at last year's Con, I can say they looked quite impressive. And were much more readable than the dark blue.

Khaki
Etymology: Hindi & Urdu khâkî dust-colored, from khâk dust, from Persian
Date: 1857
1 a: a khaki-colored cloth made usually of cotton or wool and used especially for military uniforms b: a garment of this cloth; especially: a military uniform —usually used in plural
2: a light yellowish brown

United States Marine Corps (Vietnam era)

Tropical uniforms (Tropical uniforms, Trops, or Pinks)

These were khaki (that faded with age to a pinkish-khaki) colored light weight and had to be dry cleaned while the regular khaki uniforms were washed and starched.

Tropical uniforms will be phased out of service on December 31, 2010.

The picture is misleading. The map and counters have not been printed (according to Harry) and while the hexes will be larger, I don't know that the counter:hex size ratio is accurate in the picture.

Froonp Post #16

That’s a little darker shade of brown for a  Khaki (color) than is usual.

The following is cut and pasted from a post by Harry from Boardgamegeeks: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/514 ... le-for-pre

Gidday Ben,

We are doing both, increasing the size of each hex and increasing the totla number of hexes. The picys provided for the game info come from the annual using the test counters and standard WiF maps. WiF Master's 6 maps give 50% more space to deal with than WiF Classic. The 6 A0 size maps are rotated from their (portrait) rotation in WiF and arranged 2 high x 3 long (total dimensions 1640 x 3504mm).

Each hex is just over 6% bigger in each direction (each hex increased in size by 12.5% in total) leaving us with enough extra map to have 30% more hexes as well. Due to the y axis having more space than the x axis conmpared to wif classic, there are more scandinavian and north african hexes than now but at the cost of slightly less of eastern russia being on the european scale and more of it on the pacific map scale (the master wif dividing line between pacific and europe scale appearing in the middle of the middle maps) but more hexes overall of both.

We've only done a rough mock up so far for testing purposes but it works well with the extra units and after WiF looks HUGE (if that's possible). When we get more than 500 advance orders we will commission Michael our mapmeister from wif, computer wif and eia to do the final full-colour version with all the bells and whistle and will post up some samples for your perusal and criticisms. So if you want some changes to the look of some of your more hated terrain types speak up now or forever hod your peace.

regards
harry

So only five hundred orders needed to start work and a thousand to actually produce it?
