The Real Heroes

You see my name and Paul Vebber's name often on this forum.

I want to tell you about three people you rarely see, but who are real heroes when it comes to putting together this magnificent version of Steel Panthers.

They are David Heath, President of Matrix Games, Michael Wood and Tom Proudfoot, programmers for Matrix Games.

These three gentlemen have given many hours and a lot of hard work to making the game continually better.

You already know about Michael and David, but Tom Proudfoot is another very vital link in the chain.

He comes with a proud work record from many prestigious gaming companies. It was Tom who put in the online version of SP3 for SSI.

Now these guys don't write much. Why? Because they are busy doing their thing. And if they didn't do their thing, then I would not have anything to write about Image

We all work hard, very hard here at Matrix. You know that. And so far, its all been for free. That will change, of course. It has too, or Matrix will be history.

And we don't want that to happen. But let's enjoy these freebies. I cannot even estimate how many thousands (yes, thousands) of man hours have gone into SPWAW...and still are.

A lot of folks don't believe this is possible, that we have a hidden agenda. Nothing could be further from the truth. We have two motivations.

1. We want to produce one of the best tac-level games that we possibly can. It is also a testing ground for our future efforts.

2. We want you to get to know us, trust us and enjoy our work. That way when we do ask that you pay, you know our standard.

And that is it. Nothing hidden here. Its not uncommon for me or other members of the staff to put in 20+ hours a day doing what we do.

Fortunately, I am retired and can do this. My wife, Lady Beth, is not always a happy camper, but she loves me and so she loves what I do.

And there are others, men who have full-time jobs and families who work as designers and testers and a dozen other things as they can to make this work.

So today we salute David, Michael and Tom. Thank you gentlemen for your hurculean efforts. We gamers are very grateful!..Wild Bill

I'm certainly pulling for the success of
Matrix as a company. Your approach to game
developement is a consumers dream. If it
works, you are going to scare the pants off of conventional developers because current business models simply do not permit
a product to be this well refined. I've already waved a $50.00 bill at this one.
If future products are refined the way
SPWAW is, I can't imagine why gamers wouldn't beat down the door.

You folks are tops. There is no other game of this genre that can touch this one as far as I can see. You've earned my respect already.
