Hello guys,

I guess I am stupid, but I just can't fin the Entrench All button, a new feature of the updated Kharkov. Yes, I did update my version of Kharkov to 1.20 so it should be there [:)]

My understanding is that it should appear somewhere when I am using the Unit Roster button, but I can't find it. It's besides another button ? Somebody care to enlighten me ?

Thanks !

It's in the bottom left side of the Options menu. It's labeled "Entrench all is off" or "Entrench all is on." I'm referring to the Map Options menu during game play.

After you have set the Entrench All is On button, entrenching all units that can will happen when you hit the Refit All Available Units button.

Yeah, I had the option already turned on in the Options screen.

My problem was: how then do you use the functionality you have turned on in Options ? I finally figured it out. I was looking for an "Entrench All" button, but there is none. The Entrench All functionality is actually hidden inside the Refit All button (weird that it does not have its dedicated button, but that's how it has been implemented).

The Refit All button is the one that looks like a blue fuel jerrycan. When you click on it, a message pops up telling you how many units can refitted and entrenched. If you choose yes, they all get refitted and entrenched. You can't just refit or just entrench since the same button does both.

You can just refit if the Entrench All option screen setting is turned off, but its a rare situation (dicey supply for next turn and you don't want to expend the supply jerrycan) where the player wouldn't want all eligible units to entrench.

I couldn't find it if mentioned in the documentation, but units on an unsupplied hex will not entrench with Entrench All (but can still be entrenched manually if your willing to spend the supply).

This particular feature is the only thing I'm not too fond of.  I would rather have the option to refit all OR entrench all (and of course I could do both if I had them as separate commands).  I know I can go back into the Map Options screen to toggle it back and forth.  Don't get me wrong, I like the entrench all capability, I'm just not too happy with the way it was implemented (but maybe it will grow on me).

Something said above leads me to a question.  One I could probably investigate myself but since I'm here I might as well ask.

If I don't use all my refit "cans", are they saved and added to the next turns supply?

Since a refit action also entrenches, a separate Entrench All would entrench refit capable units as well, ending their refit capability and depriving them of possible refit bonuses to no advantage. The way it's implemented works well and will grow you.

Refit bonuses do not include supply cans, so none are added to next turn's suppy.

Hank,

A Refit Can is an opportunity on a specific turn... there's nothing to save... much like you can't build up motor pool/train/ship transport... its a current turn only capability.

Thank you gentlemen for the quick reply.  After posting that I got to thinking (while working ... shame on me) that those jerry can's surely don't spill over to the next turn if not used.   And yes, I'm sure the entrench all method will grow on me.  I just got my AtD package last night so I'm going to really be spending time with it this weekend.

I'm not sure you remember me Mr. Tempest but you gave me some pointers on how the play the German's first turn in TAO way back when KP first came out.  I think it was after a real slap down you gave me in a pbem tourney.  Those pointers sure helped ... I know you would still kick my arse even on my best day.

best regards
