Ge HQ disperses ... should I be happy ?

This is a real one-liner-question:
I've just driven my PBEM-opponent's panick-stricken HQ into the woods... what kind of an advantage does it give if any ? We're not playing with C&C on.

I think the morale should fall down very quickly now...but not sure about that

You also get 200 pts (the average cost of the HQ)!

You should see "XX Force Morale Broken" where XX = country
After morale has broken, units are easier to kill, dont rally as well, etc. since morale takes a HUGE hit.

Alas, I saw no such message yet (or maybe it flashed past). Should it come automatically after you've gotten rid of the enemy's HQ ?
Nwb Q: if an unit 'disperses' its as good as dead right ? It disappears never to come back ?

Pretty much.

I don't know about that, I've seen a crew abandon a Tiger and disperse, only to have the Tiger blow up two Shermans the next turn.

Now that is odd...
I've had them jump out of the tank and get back in after they had a chance to take a smoke break, drink some schnapps or whatever, but I haven't had them disburse and then fire the gun. I'll look forward to that, I could use it in the Stalingrad campaign. :p

As far as I have seen, when a unit disperses, its eliminated from the game completely. I always kill bailed tank crews ASAP and then place a unit in the same hex with the abandoned tank until it is destroyed, so have never seen an abandoned tank recrewed. I do this more for the victory points than anything else but its good for removing possible re-crewing as well.
You should see the 'Force Morale Broken' one or two turns after after ALL Army Hdqtrs units are eliminated. AI generated Japanese armies often have SEVERAL hdqtrs. I dont recall seeing this with others, but seems possible.

I should also add, as i recall, the XX FORCE MORALE BROKEN repeats every turn following its 1st appearance, so its hard to miss.

I'm pretty sure that Force Morale Broken requires a large percentage of the enemy force to be destroyed, routed or retreating. At least that is usually the case when I see that message.

Yep. I forgot about this possibility. I was wondering how my opponent had been so careless as to leave his HQ within my reach... it is very likely he has extra HQ units.

I wouldnt doubt this, Capt. Pixel, since the AI generally places its Hdqtrs behind its main line of defense. Since this line has generally been totally destroyed by the time i get to the hdqtrs, a large % of the enemy force HAS already been zapped.

If your force is of high morale losing your HQ is not crushing.
In one of my PBEM games im the Germans in the desert in 1941 and I lost my HQ the first turn.
Now 7 turns later im kicking his ***.
Losing your HQ isnt very bad if youve got a good force.
But lose it and start losing units like mad and your screwed.
