Convinced

I'm convinced that as much as I enjoy playing WITP and have reservations about the increased level of micromanagement in AE that I'm done with WITP, vanilla.

I'm into mid 1944 as the Japanese in a PBEM and I have virtually nothing to do anymore except to get pounded and die.

The USN operates it's CVs off of the HIs with impunity as my aircraft can't penetrate 300 plane CAPs except on the rare occasion. My ships move and get sunk. My subs are detected in open ocean and killed every time they leave port. Needless to say that the SRA is no longer anything other than a Japanese dream.

The USN and RN BBs appear at a base and their bombardments are nothing short of nuke attacks. By the time they are done divisions are as weak as battalions. How do you defend against this type or overkill?

Allied 4E bombers appear and not only devastate the base that they attack, but they ravage the Japanese fighters too. I've fought the fight as best I could, but the steamroller marches on.

I realize that later in the war Japan was reeling under the Allied attacks, but she still had fangs that cost the Allies, not so here.

When my PBEM closes, whenever my opponent gets bored with hammering me, he and I will migrate to AE.

My other PBEM where I'm the Allied player, see my AAR, is moving into late 1942 and I actually feel sorry for my opponent knowing what lies ahead in our game. He won't make it easy for me, but my strength will become a crushing force and I'll use it to my advantage any way I can, within our House Rules and the spirit of not being gamey.

These two PBEMs were my first and last attempts at playing the campaign from both sides of the fence and though I've really enjoyed the games, I want more out of it. I suppose that makes me like many others who have moved to AE.

I am re-aquainting myself with WitP. I haven't played it in 4 years or so. Once I have my bearings again I'll be jumping on the AE bandwagon myself. Right now though I feel like I've never played a strategy game in my life. Guess it's not like riding a bicycle at all.[:D]

Honestly Skip WITP and go with AE, the learning curve is not that bad, and depending your side of choice (Japan/allied) the AI is actually a pretty great challange without getting bored after a few months when the AI kills off everything.

Right now I am 7/1/42 as an allied player and I honestly can say AE is by far the best strategy war game I've ever had a chance to play, the level of micromanagement actually makes it more worth it since you can control your battles. WITP only requires basic management and its almost to easy at times.

Edit - if you need help just feel free to msg me or read up the forums, there's pretty much an answer to every detail that i've seen, all else fails print the 330 page manual and spend a day breezing through it.

Cool man thanks. My guess is you'll see some topics coming from me over there sometime soon. Just have to select a good timeframe to order it, sometime when i know my wife won't be in the area so i can get the download + physical. I really want the printed manual. I remember back when i got WitP i printed the manual at home. took forever and i had to go buy a new ink cartridge to finish it + tutorial guide.

havent played anywhere past 1/2 '42

i'm planning to take India, to keep the British from reinforcing the US front (and freeing up some ground forces to establish killer atolls?)

would this work/ have a chance? or are the US CV's/bombers strong enough on their own???
