so, one thing ive just recently noticed is bright flashes every fews secs or so (while playing at 4x speed) and during these flashes, which ill call a "solar storm" causes my stations and ships to get very damaged, and eventually my ships all blow up..

so the question is, what causes this? planets proximity to a sun with high x-ray or microwave?

and some information about a planets proximity to a very voilent star would be good also, since ive just found around 4 planets like this, and all my frighter fleets are being wiped out , and there is nothing i can do about it right now...

- i assume getting better shields is later game would allow you to colonize such planets without loosing tons of ships...

feedback please :)

The only thing I experienced so far causing stuff like this is certain gas clouds, and I don't think I ever found planets in them. I could see how the AI would have troubles handling this, maybe it's a bug?

Those are Charged particle discharges, your system is near a storm. that storm will damage vessels who cannot recharge their shields quickly enough.
