1.0.4.4 can't explore ruins

Ruins on planets that belong to other empires cannot be explored. If I conquer said planet, I have the ruins stuck as unexplored and I do not get the bonus from them... There should be an option to force and exploration of ruins (even if you said not to explore them in the past), and any ruin on a planet that has been colonized should be automatically explored by the colonists.

Ya seeing this a lot in my current game where ruins on planets I've gained from allegiance switches are unexplored.

I tried using an explorer to explore the planet but no result :(

Are you sure you do not get the bonus from these ruins? The issue is known to me, but I wanted to re-check after making the switch to a current version of the game before reporting on it.

I think I checked the colony development number with presence of luxury goods and such and was pretty sure there was something factored in beyond what I thought is explainable without the ruins bonus. I am probably wrong, though, and the discrepancy was just some luxury-free development factor. My knowledge about the game mechanics is sketchy in this area.

Tough luck, if you happen to take over a planet with ruins giving an empire-wide bonus and have to miss out on that.

The whole theme of exploration of ruins isn't well realized. The AI seems to have no automated routines for that, and it probably just happens as a by-product of resource exploration, or when finally a colony ship is sent.

When you get for some reason a resource map of parts or the whole of the galaxy, exploration of ruins becomes a pain. There is no easy help in finding unexplored ruins. The best way seems to be to click through all ruin locations in the galaxy map, then go to selected location, select the planet (sometimes asteroid [:D]), then click on the ruins symbol to learn whether you already know about the details. Open galaxy map again...

This is a lot of clicks for what should be gleaned much more readily (e.g. by providing info about the ruins in galaxy map itself, a dedicated filter or color code on the map would be better). Then it becomes more clicks when you find unexplored ruins on a system with known resource status. You have to manually send a ship to explore them. For all I know, no automated ships would do it.

I might get a bonus from them, but if I click on them it says "unexplored" and doesn't specify what the bonus is.

You get the dev bonus for ruins that are not explored, but you won't know what it is offhand. Of course, it would be purposeless to explore ruins on any planet that is already colonized, as the owner would already have explored it, and therefore, you would find nothing, unless, for some reason, you chose "leave it alone"...I have no idea what would happen then.

1. It SHOULD be possible to explore ruins that you said "leave it alone" for... an emperor is allowed to change his mind you know :) 2. I WANT to be able to see the bonus off hand... even if I don't get the "exploration" bonus, I want to be able to click on it and be told what percentage of a boost it gives me.

Well, not even "change your mind" so much as "wait for the colony ship to be safely LANDED before unleashing a dozen kaltors". I wasn't arguing against fixing it. No need, really. They're not going to, it'll end up in the circular file with all the other lost TPS reports.

oh yea, definitely a big one for me :)... I hate it when it triggers the keltors or pirates before landing.. but I found out that if I say no now I will never again get the chance to say yes :(

Yes, of course there is no exploration bonus, if things go normally (I really don't know what would happen, if I ever left ruins over exploration and colonization alone - never tried that). I am not even saying there should be any popup asking about what to do about the ruins when an Explorer or whatever reaches them with the planet already colonized. The most sensible thing would be (IMO):

Any ruin specials are triggered at colonization at the latest. The colony cannot be had without this. If a colonizer comes, it is bound to release the Kaltor swarm, if nobody did before. These colonists are a nosy bunch and cannot be stopped from looking and breaking seals and stuff.

After that all to be had for other empires is info about the development bonus and any other empire-wide effects. The knowledge about those comes automatically when the colony is taken over by whatever means (invasion, purchase). If there is an empire-bonus, this should be worth an extra notification.

Good point. So when a colonizer comes, the game should ask. Saying no means 'colonization aborted' every time. I really would rather have the Kaltors or pirates before the colony ships lands. [8D]

I agree, frankly its a pain in the wrist having to tell them to explore every ruin... besides which, how am I going to keep the colonists from snooping around and freeing the keltors?

I don't think I should have the luxury of NOT triggering the keltors until I land... they should be munching up my colony ship... its just the price of doing business and all that shazz.

Lost implies the possession of such a thing to begin with. If you will check my posting history, you will note that I have always regarded the matter with undisguised cynicism, because, frankly, the only time I've ever seen positive results out of a bug report process is when I'm the one fixing the bugs. If you want anything done, you have to do it yourself.
