OK here we go... the first in a line of games set during WW1.

WW1 Campaigns France 1914.

The secoend is one many have been waiting for the second part to Advance of the Reich..

Squad Battles Red Victory (90 sceanrios and 3 campaigns).

Both titles are a must buy for me....can't wait to see how the WW1 series comes along.

Get them for $29.99 over at NWS. It wont break the bank...[;)]

In this case the decision becomes how badly do you want it, but it has to be quite badly because if you have the money, you can buy this or two other very good games instead. Two may be better than one!

I posted the above on the discussion forum for the new Bulge game. Little did I know how quickly it would come to pass.

Now the shock of the price has worn off....and as long as I quickly scroll past that part of the forum as I get minor twinges of jealousy...I'm cool.

There are three other games on the horizon that I'm looking forward to with in my budget so I'm happy. That covers my game spending for the year.

I don't want this thread to talk abou the Bulge game though.enough on here I think...so lets see what people think of HPS new offerings.

No problem, I own more HPS games then any other. My point is just that they are a good value, true to the classic traditions of board wargaming, and when I have to make decisions on what to purchase they are always near the top. Add in the cost factor and NWS and they become almost irresistable.

I've seen some posts today berrating a poor guy for starting a thread in the Battles For the Bulge forum that actually discussed that game.

Though I share your excitement here Wodin and once worked for HPS myself, I don't think it's good sport to boast your support for another company's games on a Matrix forum, with the allusion that they "won't break the bank" - whilst Matrix's new Battles For the Bulge in your opinion will.

Do you see where I'm coming from? I just don't think its polite to Matrix.

Finally, I have been waiting for "Red Victory" ever since I got "Advance of the Reich". I'm also thinking about picking up "The Proud and the Few", does anyone know if the whole Tarawa campaign is in the "The Proud and the Few" ?

Thanks!

Hi Peter, I'm playing Proud and the Few at present. It's a complete blast - one of Squad Battles' best titles that I long forgot about and the mini-series The Pacific re-kindled my curiosity.

Tarawa though is not included in the scenario set. Here's the P&F scen list:

Pacific War btw is the title that includes 3 linked scenario campaigns. They appear to cover the Aussies in New Guinea, Merills Marauders and a Japanese SE Asia adventure.

Whoah hang on a mintue....if you read my post above I stated I didn't want this thread to discuss the Bulge game....I also have never said the Bulge game isn't worth the money...I believe it is.

I really can't remember berating anyone?? If so I wil check back and alter my post.

I'm a great supporter of matrix and take it badly to be accused of slagging them off and then BOASTING about another company.

Thats wrong.....anyway as I stated I never wanted this thread to go on about Panthers offering.

I've seen many posts on the General Discusion forum talking and rfecommending other companies games....maybe I shouldn't have said "break the bank" but there are a fair few titles matrix publish that wouldn't break the bank either.

Sorry if it was taken the wrong way...I'm sorry if someone has been berated...

Another thing many on here know how much I've "been waving the flag" for the Bulge title and all the other Panther games on a few other forums. So I really feel its wrong to accuse me of slagging them off.

Adam, one last thing. I see you said buying the Panther game is a no brainer if your a wargamer....and yes your right....the problem is Adam unlike you as you bought it some here can't afford to pay that sort of money...so I mentioned it wont break the bank for those who wanted to buy the Bulge game and couldn't afford it...so here is an alternative new release they can afford. As your not the people on here I was aiming it at then why do feel the need to make me look bad???

Yea, I know. I cannot keep up with all these new games. HPS seems to all of a sudden releasing a new game or 2 every month it seems. Now HPS decides to release a WWI game when I just bought HPS Atlanta, Peninsula, and North German Plain '85. My friend also just made me buy Left 4 Dead 2, plus now I fear Modern Wars Vol 1 is getting ever closer to release. Damn give us a break!

Hi Wodin, sorry if you read me wrong - I wasn't referring to you berrating another poster for starting a thread. Some other people had done so.

I must have also read you wrong too as I thought you were one of the people saying that BFtB wasn't worth the $79USD asking price. It was on this basis that I thought you were saying that another compnay was better than Matrix value-wise here.

I hear you about affordablity. Everything I buy has to be paid off at some point too. I have no problem with people saying that BFtB is overpriced. It's their right - but in this thread I thought that Matrix was being sarcastically ridiculed in comparison to another company that does not pay for this forum's existence.

Back on topic, I personally think that HPS's Advance of the Reich was one of their weakest and poorly designed Squad Battles titles. As for a WW1 game, if it's a re-hash of Panzer Campaigns it's a nice move but I now find the series old and only good for MP. If its a re-hash of the Operatioal level series, it's AI has never been a strong point either, so unfortunately it won't grab me.

HPS right now is in Nashville for TillerCon III over the long weekend. I'm sure that will be a blast.

I've always enjoyed the SB series...but it shines best PBEM. Also an awful amount of work has gone into updating the SB series over the last two years or so. It fills my turn based tactical needs!

Apology excepted Adam....no I never said te Bulge game wasn't worth the money...

Hi Adam,

thanks for the list of scenarios! It's strange that there is no Tarawa because when I'm on the HPS website I found the following:

http://www.hpssims.com/pages/products/S ... udFew.html

"Scenarios include Wake Island, Tarawa, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, and others..."

Peter

PS: I currently reading 2nd book about Tarawa "Utmost Savagery" and I want to play a good Tarawa Campaign/Scenario badly. I have ASL and I have Tarawa Historical Campaign module but the pacific rules are new to me so it's gonna be a while before I play Tarawa in ASL.

I thought it was odd too and guess what - you're right! The Tarawa action is in the 2 Betio scenarios!! [:)]

PS: And one of them is huge.
