A retrospective for all you fans ...

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Sorry for not quoting you, Markshot, but I don't want to give the Internet a bandwidth hernia. [;)]

But, hey, am I the only one that misses the radio?

The game that was published by Battlefront came with heckuva printed manual, BTW.

I only realized after making them that I hadn't reduced the JPG compression.

I am not sure where in the last four years we lost the radio. It was almost like a trade mark of the series.

The manual could actually be read by the naked eye. Additionally, MG analysis later became half of the HTTR Strategy Guide (a separate product still available for sale) and was removed from the HTTR manual.

Aside from the radio, it looks like we also lost the objective descriptions.

I remember the first release of RDOA had most unit/commander data represented by a text tag. In one of the patches that was switched to a bar presentation. A big improvement as it was hard to know exactly how the text tags compared.

I think HTTR introduced the dark and light blue bars such that you could compared start and end states.

It's a shame that BattleFront dismantled it's RDOA forum. They had some cool screenshots of a proposed Operation Crursader game. Along with playing RD, it was those images that hooked me on the AA engine and game concepts. From that point, forward, it's been my belief that this is simply the only way to do a proper operational, land-combat wargame.

PoE,

Well, if you really want something from the forums, I wrote a custom archive script and ran it just 24 hours before BTS took it offline. Talk about getting inside someone's OODA loop!

So, if you want it, I could give you a zip of the public forum (16Mb).

Dave looks quite a bit younger in the RDOA game credits. No doubt that burning candle on both ends for the last 10 years have taken their toll on his dashing personage.

I thought Dave did some game before that about alien (as in extraterrestial) drug smugglers. Apparently it was met with rave reviews by Australian TV news for corrupting the youth of Australia. As I understand it, the rest of Dave's game design career has been to chart a path beyond that incident.

When it comes to destroying family values with video games, Dave was definitely ahead of the curve. :)

Deep from the bowels of Markshot's Internet archive, proof emerges of what was supposed to have been the second game!

This would be Desert Crusade, the focus, Operation Crusader:

Of course an intrepid gamer might make the Crusader scenario with new available tools with the new game?

Not unless the CotA estabs are massaged into working with BftB estab editor.

It simply won't happen.
