Hi folks!
Just bought this and installed latest patch. Played through tutorial and now trying "12 Races" scenario. Couple of issues I'm having:

1) Text in dialog boxes is "cut off" on right side so I can't see the entire entry. Not blurred or anything, just not all squeezed into the box I guess.

2) Attacking an undefended colony w/corvettes/ark/transports. I declared war. Got prompt that says "choose what to do" (or something like that)-- but only option is "no action"! Tried it over several turns and could never attack, take the colony over, etc. What's an empire-builder to do? [:)]

Re the text problem, probably you have large fonts selected on your desktop.

There are two possible reasons that you can't do anything at the planet. Either you don't have a ship with any ground attack ability (are you sure there's a corvette there), or the enemy have the "Plea for mercy" tech that prevents you attacking them. The tool tip on the exterminate button (I think) should say something about enemy psychic powers.

If my memory serves me right, there's at least one race whose Corvettes have only Comm Lasers for weapons (ugh). Can't recall if there are others with zero Gd Att.

Re the text: Yes, that's it! I had it at 125% on my desktop. Kind of a pain that I have to reconfigure my desktop to see all the in-game text, but a minor inconvenience I guess.

Re the Attack: I had 3 corvettes as well as some transports with population (I was being proactive![:)]), and I was playing as human. Of couse I've since moved on and didn't keep a copy of that point. Didn't know about the psychic thing-- it was way early in the game against a "Qa Qa" pop1 undefended colony. Once I got to the selction screen, everything was grayed out except a big red block at the bottom that said "No Action" or something like that. Had no other choice.

That's your problem right there. You need transports with Marines to conquer the planet, not population.

If the planet is undefended and population 1, I don't think I need Marines. At least, in the tutorial I didn't have any problem taking undefended planets that I can remember. I should just be able to take it w/the Corvettes right? I had the transports along just to add to the population after I conquered it without waiting 4 turns to shuttle them there.
