Historically, 47th I.F. Chutai ( 独立飛行第四七中隊 ) were in Canton at the start of war. But they had been on the way to Saigon, not deployed there.
According to Kuroe Yasuhiko's memoir, 47th I.F. Chutai departed from Fussa base, Tokyo Dec 3(local time).
They landed on Canton Dec 7(local time) and then the pilots knew the plan of IJA's Hong Kong raid on Dec 8(local time).
Yes, 47th I.F. Chutai NEVER committed battles with another IJA airgroups in Canton. Afternoon of the day, they were flying to Hainan, and arrival at Saigon was Dec 9 1700(local time). But one Ki-44 had operation loss before arrival.
