An example...

I wanted to post this in here as an example of the AI on this system.

First off, this isn't BftB - it's the previous game in the engine...CotA.

I'm playing First Clean Break where the allies have to fight a delating action and eventually get troops exiting the map to the south. It's 2 1/2 days long. I set about creating a delay all across the main crossings. As I said in a previous post, the AI probed and found a location I wasn't protecting (tbh, I thought it mught try to bust through...but it didn't. It assessed and flanked.

Here we are at the beginning of Day 2. The AI is about 1/3rd of the way down the map. I'm desperately trying to plug holes and continuosly (it seems) re-issuing orders. Anyway...my point? I had primed several bridges along a river that ran South West to North East. I had set a couple of units close by to Deny Crossing...however I didn't on the furthest two bridges up the North East (one is circled in yellow). The reasons for not placing units at these bridges was two fold...a) I thought the AI would force down the main routes and b) I'm very thin on troops.

So one bridge gets blown when the AI gets near (highlighted in red...and another further south (again circled in red). There are some other bridges to the South West which I was working my way down to in the vain hope of forcing one route for the Germans so they wouldn't spread out and spread my forces out. So what does the AI do when the North East bridge is blown? Head back north east and go over one of the crossings I hadn't blown.

Now to you and I as an attacking force that seems logical perhaps. And perhaps some of us wouldn't do it...what with heading back north again away from the enemy...I'd likely just bang away at the front door.

The point is this...even though there was a flaw in my plan...the AI grabbed a hold of it. Even though it's something we might not do...the AI is keeping my forces spread thin and attacking on a wide front...something I'm struggling to keep under control. I was trying to force the AI down one route (yellow arrow to the west) and it keeps finding ways to my flanks....yellow arrows to the east!!

Just something to ponder when considering the price, that's all [;)]

Judge,

Thats impressive but BftB pulls things out of the hat thats even more amazing....so if your willing to pay that price for CotA's AI you certainly pay it for BftB.
