Are you running it from the "Play" link in the game menu (the shortcut on your desktop)? Have you tried running the game executable directly with "Run as Administrator"? Did you allow all the components (.NET and DirectX) to install when you ran the installer?

Can you post a screenshot of the error message you get.
Also is this the same message that you got the first time you tried it.

The usual solution to the "doesn't work anymore" error is to reinstall, although you say you've tried that. When you install it fresh, do you get the same error message.
Also your dxdiag doesn't list any directX dlls, although usually any directX problem would cause a different error message.
I guess the mostly likely problem is that somehow you are missing one of the dlls the game needs to start. Can you check if you have the following.
In the game folder
VideoDecoder.dll 61440 bytes
In the bin folder inside the game folder
irrKlang.NET2.0.dll 491520 bytes
SlimDX.dll 2,981,888 bytes
If you have these, then maybe it's a problem with one of the Microsoft components.

You still haven't answered my question on whether the error message you got the first time you tried it was the same one you get now. Once Vista and 7! decide there's a problem with a program they'll stick up this message all the time, which unfortunately provides no useful information to help diagnose the problem.
You could try installing the components you need direct from Microsoft. You need Dot Net v3.5 and Visual C++ 2008 runtime and DirectX

All these should have been installed with the game, but some problem with them is the only thing I can think of. I'd uninstall the game, then reinstall after you've installed the Microsoft stuff to make sure windows has no memory of the game being a program that doesn't work
Other than that, it's maybe possible but unlikely that your download was corrupted in some way that went undetected.

I've just diagnosed a similar problem on another user's machine, which could very well be the same problem you have, which is missing the verdana font. See this thread for details, and how to fix it.

You didn't say you got to see the start screen. I assumed from your report that it wasn't even getting that far.
I don't have any ideas of the top of my head, but it's a different scenario, and I'll give it some thought. If you could look again for the error report files, that'd be a big help.

It's difficult and not very productive to just guess at solutions, but since the the game is running enough to show the splash screen, it should be easy to give you a version of the program that'll show the exact error. Please email me at
bob@ntronium.com and I'll send you a debug version of the game.
