I've volunteered to help out the folks at Wastelands Interactive. Please submit any grammatical errors or mispellings you find in this thread. I'm going to run through the file to the best of my ability, but the language is mixed with code and special symbols. I'm asking for your help so that I can narrow down where the mistakes are in the file. That way we can catch most of these. Thanks much!
I am not sure if this comes under "ask and you shall receive" or "be careful what you ask for" [:)], or maybe Mike has spent too much time working in the QA/QS group.
This is intended as constructive advice, not throwing rocks. I can't aford to throw rocks, given the amount of glass in my metaphorical house.
1. “playerr” on Pages 13 (twice), 57, 106, and 114.
2. Page 53 “By selecting a hex occupied by one of the playerthe player’s land units” .
3. Page 97 “Nuclear. The penultimate military weapon of World War II” should be “ultimate” .
Not typos, but other errors that require correction, in my opinion.
4. Most figures come out with the right side cut off. E.G. Figures on Page 37 showing strength and AP of units by type / level have right-hand columns cut off (I see partial of Panzer Div, no PZ corps or airborne). Terrain cost table on Page 45 also is cut off on the right hand side. I see most of the column for mountain, but no jungle.
5. Strategic movement section does not identify how many points are required per unit type (yeah, it will say on the screen when you select the unit and hit the strategic movement button, but mentioning this might help those who haven’t “seen the elephant” with Time of Wrath (ToW )).
6. Page 74, figure shows BB then CV, text says CV then BB. The figure has 3 columns, text would indicate only one. I guess the blue is friendly ships, the green is (estimated?) neutral ships and the red is estimated enemy ships. The verbiage "from left to right and top to bottom" would lead one to expect the header row and the left column to both have ship types, not just left column.
7. There are mulitple cases in which there appears to be straight copy/paste of text from ToW. For the strategic bombing loss calculation on Page 67, the term “artillery” is used instead of the revised “infantry”. The text on Page 96 says “artillery” but the figure says “infantry”. Figure on Page 96 shows 4 “money piles”, but text says 3 light bulbs (the text on Page 97 correctly refers to “money piles”). The diplomatic example of exert pressure (on page 110) is from ToW, since it uses Germany and Rumania (this is less significant in that it is somewhat evident that the countries involved are both Axis). Page 120 “Furthermore, each country can be differently affected with the scale of changes; in other words winter is more harmful for Mediterranean countries than it is for Finns.” (this is less significant in that it is somewhat evident what is meant).
8. The air strike and air combat descriptions look like cut and past from first revision of ToW (air units, not bombers/fighters).
9. This one is an error in the ToW manual that was carried over. Research progress is after each month, but the manual says it is after each turn.
