I was playing the Iwo Jima scenario last night and I noticed a lot of support units like Engineers, Artillery, Seabees. etc. They aren't really good for combat and I didn't notice any special abilities like building structures. Anyone know what there use is...cause it escapes me.

Those indeed are support units according to the US OOB. Their strength is adjusted to the combat abilities of those units.

...but they can't do anything else besides combat correct? i.e. Engineers in the game cannot build anything or remove mines etc.

Those unit doesn't possess any special abilities beyond other.
