Can someone tell me a good way to keep my bases well supplied?

My frontline bases with good numbers of aircraft are low on supplies constantly...using routine convoys didn´t help much, so i´m spending more of my time by shipping supplies than fighting against enemy


Please help!

I´m a theather commander, not the CIC of supplies:D

Here's some hints:
1- Never use Routine Convoys, 9 times on 10 they don't come at destination
2-Don't leave more ground troop than the necessary in a forward base hard to supply, they "eat" a lot of supplies
3-Stop builidng fortifications,airfield or port if you are low on supplies
4-It is better make 1 time seldom a big resupply mission with a lot of ship, than more resupply missions but with a few of them

Too bad this supply stuff isn´t handled like in PAC WAR...as a commander i have normaly nothing to do with supply(except ordering it).

Aside from what Pk said, don't lose transports. That will hurt you more than anything you can do wrong or not do at all.

Playing the Cartwheel scenario now on US side, i have enough transports i think...only a few were damaged...90 Japanese Ships sunk so far including a CVL. Most of the ships sunk due air attack (thats why i need more supplies )

I have most of my airpower at PM, and sometimes i had plenty of supply, but that had pressed Cooktown and some other bases nearly dry...

I'm off to sleep now (finally ), but something else you may want to try:

Pull back some of your AG's when you start to run dry. Then, when you've sufficiently resupplied, transfer them back up to the front.

I am having some trouble setting up routine convoys. My impression is you pretty much have to deal with the supply yourself on a regular basis. Am I missing some process to set up regular convoys from say Numea to Luganville and Lunga? I seem to get one or two supply runs and then the convoys kind of run out of steam, so to speak.

Can anyone explain, with exact duplicable steps, on how to set up supply runs? What I would like is to set up say automated supply runs from Brisbane, and Noumea to several bases and not have to worry about them. Is this possible or do you have to do them yourself continually?

you should get "CS:Lunga" appear where it normally says compurter control/routine supply

Several of us have had CS: convoy problems with AOs (ie, trying to deliver fuel). The supply convoys seem to work fine, but fueling ships want to stall in the ocean, it seems. Matrix is aware of this and looking into it. You'll have to manually handle the fuel convoys.

Otherwise, the procedures listed above work dandy.

OK - I created a supply / transport task force consisting of 4 AK ships at Noumea. I then click on destination and get it set to Luganville. I next click on the Human Control and it changes to "Routine Convoy" Not CS:Luganville. The next day the ships are at sea heading for Luganville, which is OK for now. The problem is that these routine convoys get a mind of ther own, and my experience so far is they will now go back an reload at Noumea and then head off to resupply whatever they decide to.

Hi, If you change home port to target port at same time you set to computer control it will not turn back (but then you need to change homeport again once they are unloaded to get them to return)

After re-reading the manual section about this, it finally dawned on me what I was doing wrong!

To make a Continous Supply convoy you have to put the task on computer control first. Then select the destination. The convoy then loads up and heads out, and after letting a test run for a bit there has been no interuption in 3 cycles anyway.

The other example from 82nd AB is how you would set up a convoy that goes where the computer programming thinks it needs supply most... or something like that, called Routine Convoy.

The little trick with changing home port could come in handy for a few other tricks too.

In my campaign I am in early March '43 and have had a CS:Cooktown supply convoy running continuously (from Brisbane) for the entire time. No problems. They are very useful. Have had a Brisbane to GiliGili CS supply convoy running since I took it from the Japanese early in the game. No trouble with the convoy - 'cept it got blowed up real good one time from enemy aircraft.

Yes it appears to be working fine now that I understand the rather odd way (to me anyhow) of how to set it up.

A couple of thoughts on this;

1- The manual should be explicit with the actual steps needed to set-up the convoys. Such as instead of how the section reads now something like; To set up a routine Convoy Click/choose the following in this *EXACT* order.... and then give the order!

2- The UI could be a bit more intuitive as well. Why rely on a certain order of clicking of options instead of something more straight forward. Say a dragdown menu or radio buttons for the various options?
