Out of supply

If a unit is out of supply, you should not be able to provide replacements, do upgrades, increase unit size, use strategic movement, assign a commander (he can't get there) and if you disband the unit the PPs could not get to your pool, so they would be lost. The buttons for those features should be blocked out when a unit has been out of supply for a full turn. [:)]

This has been talked about before. I personally don't see a problem here, the return on pp's is quite small. And as far as assigning a commander, who says the commander couldn't have para dropped in or found a break in a line. I know it's unrealistic, but anything's possible. I believe strategic movement is only possible if you control a line of hexes back to a city.
As far as being able to give a unit replacements or do an upgrade you may have a point, but I find it more enjoyable when trying to take cities back from the evil empire of the fascist. It is important to surround the city and attack. Remember you can only do one thing with a unit; buy replacements or upgrade the unit. This is one of a few games that I've played in which you just can't walk up to a city and attack it and then capture it. It took me three or four turns to take Smolensk back from the Germans (this is not counting the turns that it took doing the flanking manuvers) and to me that seems realistic and appropriate.
I love this game and these may be little flaws but they have no real consequences to the overall package of the game.

As far as the commanders who could or couldn't "get there", I take as my example Flugkapitaen Hanna Reitsch who landed a Fiesler Storch under fire in the last days of the Battle for Berlin to take out one of the leaders.
A heroic effort in an evil cause but it could also have been replicated in a Westland Lysander or in any of the Allied Auster observation planes. Likewise, commanders attached to units destroyed in combat re-appear in the command pool. Quite reasonable.
It's realistic enough that I have no quibble with it in the game scale.

As soon as I wrote the post I thought that the 'assign commander' feature wasn't relevant. Paulus could have been flown out of Stalingrad and a new commander flown in. MacArthur was taken out of Bataan, etc., but I think the rest of the argument stands up.
The point about return of PPs, is that the 50% return on disband, seems to be based on the cost of a unit at level 1, even if the unit being disbanded was at a higher level, which make big difference in PP value, especially for armoured and motorised units.
I also find it is difficult to take cities and I think the supply allowance for minor cities, cut of from main supply, is too generous. However, it should not be possible to send replacements and upgraded equipment into a cut-off unit and the same applies to increasing the size of a surrounded unit.
I was wondering if air supply could be made available, with suitable non-fighter units in supply and in range. Depending on the strength of the air units used, a certain quantity of supply and/or replacements could be delivered, subject to interception and weather.[:)]
