why can't singapore send convoys

There are a number of default convoys already in the game, including a large number from Singapore (Allies in version 1.02). But after turn 1, when I look at the convoy list, all the convoys from Singapore have failed because it says that Singapore must be connected to a land source of supplies. But Singapore ITSELF is a source of supplies which reach adjoining units. So why can't Singapore send out convoys?

And if there is a good reason why Singapore cannot send out convoys, why were they put in the game in the first place?[&:]Now all of those places that were supposed to get supplies from Singapore are probably out of supplies and will get clobbered by the Japanese before I can arrange other sources of supplies?

Singapore is a source of supply for adjacent units, as every other city for its neighbor units.
However Singapore is not a Main Supply Source and does not distribute supply for other cities.

So why did you put in a whole bunch of convoys from Singapore by default in the game?

And I find nothing in the manual that says convoy supplies have to come from a MSS. The manual says "There are two types of convoys: a supply convoy and a resources convoy. The
former carries supply from supplied port to non-supplied port;"

This has probably slept away from earlier version of the game.
