I can't seem to be able to fight a sea battle manually. Let me see if I got this straight. On the battle screen, I can select my ship, then I assume you select an enemy ship, this is what I cannot do. On one battle I was able to choose the enemy ships, but have not been able to since, I end up autoresolving all the battles. Is there a trick to this that I'm missing? No one else seems to have this problem.[&:]
Also, on page 17 of the manual, I see a different gameplay preference screen then the one in game. Is the AI thread priority slider gone?
Thanks for any help and tips!

You don't fight manually.
You have 3 choices to LOOK at the battle results.
1) Next turn (usually 2-3 turns in a battle) and you can see the results
2) Next move- you see the results of each firing
3) end battle- skips the above and you get a list of all the battle results.

Actually you do have some manual control over firing. Whenever your fleet comes into battle, sometimes you will notice there is a small explosion icon over all your ships. On all the enemy ships there will be a crossair showing that they are targets. The explosion icon on your ships is actually an indicator showing you are ready to fire. When you see these icons, you can select any ship in your fleet to fire and then select which enemy ship to target. After this you can select next turn. From what I know, this is how it all works but I am not understanding why I can only select one ship to fire and my turn is over? I do notice sometimes when a battle starts, the enemy will get to fire first, sometimes several turns before I can fire. This is either just a random thing or I wonder if it is based on other factors prior to a battle? Maybe one of the developers can answer these questions.

Yes Warspite, that is what I'm talking about. The manual states,on page 87-88:
"after choosing a friendly unit, the following actions can be made:
Move- moves the unit into another tile, which helps avoid enemy fire.
Attack-select an enemy unit that is going to be shot by selected friendly unit.
Withdraw- unit tries to escape."
It is the attack that I cannot do. The manual doesn't give you a clue about what the little sprites mean! In fact the manual is almost worthless. You have to guess at many of the functions in this game.[:(]
Sometimes I want to concentrate fire on a particular ship. Auto resolve appears to spread out your firepower.

Sorry, that part of the manual was transfered over from another game.
I believe that function has never worked and is probabaly considered as an exploit, as the human player will always pick the carrier first.
The human has too many advantages when choosing.
I'm not sure the developement team wants a person to choose.
Lets wait for Doom or Anraz to reply.

Do you want me to record a video for you?

I think that would be a good idea.
It looks like you left click on your ship, then left click on the enemy ship and a red circle shows up, then click again to attack.
But when I do this I only can use one ship to attack when it is my turn, not all the ships.
If I click next move it goes through all of my ships when it is my turn.

I don't need a video for this, just tell me how it is supposed too work. Is it working as designed? Is the manual correct? Is it one ship at a time? What do the little target symbols mean? What does the little explosion symbol mean? etc....If it is just auto resolve, then fine, but just tell me how it is supposed to be.

All the while i though targeting was automatic.
Moving and withdrawing is manual.
So the range actually affect results? didn't know that.

A video would be good.
This is the first I ever heard of player targeting.

Well I read it, but every time I tried it, she never worked.
Now it's posted, and I can get it to work but I'm not sure you can pick each ship, because everytime I try it only lets me pick one ship and I am battling two or 3 ships against 15.
I can not afford to test it, I need every ship to fire each turn. I'm loosing battleships left and right to the AI building massive ships in a short period of time. All of sudden I'm getting fleets of 10BB's 24 CA's and 6 CV's appearing out of the Bermuda Trangle. There's another Triangle in the Pacific near Japan just can not think of the name.
I have sunk over 156 ships and killed all their big carriers and poof out of the triangle big fleets pop up. This is the third fleet to show up, they keep getting larger and larger.
At least now I can choose retreat, which I could never figure out how that worked, or it never worked until the latest two patches.
I've already retreated, killing this big fleet is going to be a challenge. I've lost BB's CA's and Mac Arthur has the fleet scattered.
McArthurs trying to support the hugh invasion of Japan (15 units), Port Moresby and the Pacific.
I knew they were hiding the Kaga and Akagi as they were down to 2/2 by the red bar or 3/3. The Kaga re-appeared in this large fleet repaired, but 5 more carriers joined her with 10 BB's and 24 CA's
I keep sending radio signals for gwgarder to help but he's off comanding some army in the Pacific.
Hell..... now they finally decide to attack Colombo again and are moving inland in India. I need GW to send me some planes! I need planes!

So that's why I keep seeing Japanese planes bombing me and not American reinforcements.
