What does UpgradeToID1...10 mean?

Hi
I see in the Air Groups there is not only one upgrade available. There are upgrade 1-10 possible to fill out. Why?
And when will the upgrades occur?

The PDU option allows for broader range of upgrade options. with it off, you will be restricted in many instances to few or even none. best bet if you want that flexibility is to play PDU set to 'on'

Upgrades only happen if you have the unit enabled for upgrade, the upgrade type is currently available / planes are available, and you must satisfy the general upgrade requirements inlcuding base size, loaction relative to a HQ, and base supply.

In stock, the upgrade path was based solely on aircraft; A->B->C,etc
For AE, it was changed to more reflect how groups changed aircraft. The aircraft upgrade path now reflects more the changing models of a particular aircraft.
