I thought, erroneously, that the demo for BFTB was to be available about two weeks after the product release? It's going on six weeks now, any word of when we will see the demo?

Don't fret, Ron.

Those of us who purchased the game have been waiting 6 weeks now for a significant patch so we can play the game without crashes. Not sure what has happened here with Matrix and Panther, but they have some serious logistical issues they need to work out when releasing a new game. Definitely wait to purchase the game until the patch is released.

The demo is waiting on the patch as we want to ensure it has no CTDs. I'll be putting out a new patch build directly for our beta testers to test. If that goes OK, Matrix will then work up the new installer, we will test that and then it will go public. The demo will follow shortly thereafter. Please be patient.

So much for the claims about "Ferrari"...

Yes, I'm willing to eat my words. At this point, BFTB is no Ferrari. It is a Chevy and what a shame. Panther had such a good reputation before this release. So did Toyota. I guess even the good companies fall. I hope Panther will not make this mistake on their next release. As for whether it's worth the money, well, the game has a lot of potential if they can fix the crashes.

I am still confident they will make things right.

Just how much the words of these people are worth..
Delying the release itself was just a maistershtick ..2 years (or so) of saying one date, after another. "Tomorrow" , than tomorrow you hear "tomorrow". What is the point of making such statements.
I heard over a week ago hard statement , that the demo will be released in "this week", and "If it doesn't go out this week, it should be a definite for next week.". We have now 3 days for this "definite" to became another empy shell. Maybe.. a miracle.

Ive learned to not take those people words seriously.

Hi,

The Demo went to Matrix early last week to be packaged up, but as you can probaly guess the work to get Close Combat out the door kind of got in the way. They have now done their bit and got it working but have asked us to make a small change before we release it (Some extra marketing to help sell more copies [:)]). This will probably take me an evening or two and then we will test, repackage, retest and release. So fingers crossed, Demo out next week!

(I hope)

Frankly it is a shame. No question this company took a beating over the state of this release. And thankfully I didnt let the hype influence me into buying the game. Im sure in six months or there abouts the game may have some of these issues addressed and perhaps fixed.

For me the warning bells were various ommissions of combat capibilities such as close assault vs armor when lacking dedicated AT weapons/ammo...strange unit behaviour as reported by some folks early on, and a apparant indifference on Panther Games part to address some issues still extant in previous iterations of this game engine.

You can churn em out but the proof is in the pudding. At any rate even though this game is not on my to buy list any time soon when it hits the discount bin I may pick it up.

Edited to add the following, the single biggest turnoff to me about this game was the lack of a grand campaign. I understand the engine may demand more then the average computer might be able to support in respect to modeling such, but that single factor was a huge influence in me not jumping in off the bat. Irrespective of this the scenarios as I understand them are very engrossing as reported by folks that did purchase this title.

Still looking forward to the demo, whenever it´ll be available.[:)] If I like, what I do expect from BFTB, I also do consider buying it, even if I actually can´t afford it ATM.

I was always interested in any such game since 360´s "Patriot", which was far ahead of its time, although it was modern combat (first iraqui war), which I´m actually not interested in. So the only non hex based WW2 operational game (I know of), surely deserves all support from the wargaming community! [8D]

Yeah, reading about stuff like this put me off buying the game. This and the wishlist thread.

Good spot on the demo pizzagrenadier ... was there an announcement or were you just been camping there? It's in the download section here.

Any news on when the patch will be available?

i kind of have a daily routine to browse for info related to games that i'm interested in, i'm tracking 3 games at the moment: BftB, starcraft 2 and natural selection 2

since the demo is out, i think the patch should be here soon, since i remember the dev stated that they were gonna roll the patch into the demo, which means that the patch should be ready.

I was referring to close assault vs. armor.
I don't think it's necessary to implement this in the BFTB but necessary in Close Combat.
