Are the original maps and battles from CC2 present in this re-release?

As it has been commented quite a lot of times it seems that the small size of the CC2 maps helped the AI engine to work better... How are the new maps for this re-release? Are they larger than those of CC2?

Thank you very much for your help !!!

There are a few maps directly from CC2 just repainted. One that comes to mind is Nijmegen. Many are improvements over the original CC2 maps. Especially where painting style and color palette is concerned. Southernland did all the map painting and if you've ever seen any of his maps (previous releases of WaR and TLD were largely his handiwork) you know how good he is, not only at painting but creating maps that all have their own unique tactical challenges. Some of the maps are expansions of CC2 maps. Nijmegen Bridge is one example. A larger part of the city is represented. But none of the maps are "off the shelf" maps directly out of CC2. All have value added in some way.

Careful attention was given to how each map fit into the larger strategic map and the role each tactical map plays in that larger picture. Steve McClaire our lead developer was responsible for the majority of the decision making in how all of the maps fit together. Between Steve and Shane they crafted how everything fit together. So some maps are larger to force drawn out lengthy battles and other maps were kept small to give the stronger force the advantage and make it tougher on the smaller force. The size of the maps also creates more importance on the maps that historically were important. There definitely was a larger plan taken into account of the overall design of how they all fit and play together. There's a great deal of clear continuity between tactical maps and the strategic map that was not previously possible.

Also there is far more area represented in Last Stand Arnhem on the strategic map. With 64 maps in play there are many more battle areas represented that were historically relevant.

That looks like CC2 Nijmegen Town map IIRC. I remember the "Factory" complex and the row of townhouse that used to be a deadly stalemate between myself and a friend from back in the day.

I am going to have install CC2 on this new rig, and compare maps.

I haven't checked yet to see what Son Town and Bridge look like, but I remember holding the Town with the 8.8cm Flak and le MG42s til the Panzer Brigade arrived and then the Panthers and Panzer IV L70s keep XXX Korps pinned for most of the campaign when they showed up and bleed the British tankers white.

What's very cool is that while scrolling through the many battles you choose from, one can click to view the map. I really like that feature.

I forgot how bad I was at this game. And I agree, maps are beautiful.

Why is there a Cromwell tank in north Arnhem? Did XXX corps find a wormhole?

[:D] No. It was a "what if" scenario we included. We created as many historical scenarios as we could and for places that didn't have significant fighting we filled with some fictional scenarios. That screenshot was likely from one of those scenarios.
