On the fence, should I wait?

I have played early Close Combat games and enjoyed them. I am considering this game as a future purchase but I am reading quite a bit of dissent in regards to MG's and Mortar lethality, iffy AI and some buggy pathing.

How much is this detracting from the game right now, from the people playing the game are you still enjoying the game? How is the patch record with the developer? Do they deliver timely patches that fix/enhance gameplay? Should I wait a month or 3 till I see a patch addressing these issues?

I love tactical games so this would be right up my alley. What I don't like are lots of promises about future patches that don't deliver. I have bought games in the past to show support for a small developer despite of a games problems but I'm a little older and jaded now lol and don't want to waste the money on a game that gets 2 weeks play before I come to the conclusion it really is broke.

Thanks, looking forward to seeing if this is in the "buy now" or "wait" category.

it depends as to whether you're going to play a human opponent or not. if you're just playing the AI then yeah i'd so go for it; the new stuff in this game makes it the best CC yet imo. but playing an MP campaign is going to make you rage

Hi White Eagle,

I see you're into CC as well.

I think the game is not broken. It basically acts similar to the old titles. We just want it to be better.
Play vs AI is good enough and fun.  Just fiddle with the difficulty settings to get the desired results.

Erik says, Strat AI is going to be tweaked in the 1st patch.
Tactical AI (a bit better than the previous titles) and Pathfinding (not so much different from the previous titles) is going to be tweaked in the 2nd patch.

As for the MG firepower and mortar effectiveness, I got used to it already and it's not too different from the previous titles (motars at least).
But the terrain protection values look funny according to the MG42 thread.

As regards MG effectiveness: all you need do is obey the signs that say keep off the grass [;)]

I snuck mine, then the G/F found out when she came into the PanzerBunker(AKA my Hobbycave) with a lemonade and sandwich, and kicked me to her laptop to look on Ebay for models(the 1/72 scale kind) while she played it for about 2 hours.

A conversation at my place yesterday, after a sudden break in my h2h GC:

Dad: "What are you doing here, it's mums week now?" (The small pups are living at my lair every second week...)
Teenage daughter: "Mum said I could sleep here tonight."
Phone to mum (a.k.a 'der Gauleiter'): "You said you were sitting by the computer, just playing CC, so I thought it was okay..."

Hey John,

I was in the same boat as you.
Used to love the original CC2 way back, then moved onto to CM. I never thought I'd play CC again to be honest, but reading this forum made me dig out my old CC2 game again...15 years later it still works perfectly! Played a few scenarios to see if it was fun or not. Had a blast.

...but instead of buying Arnhem I bought The Longest Day that came out a few months ago. I figured that one would be more stable and by the time I finished that one I could come back and get this one which would then be patched once or twice.

The Longest Day grand campaign is great fun.

Really weird. I moved to Combat Mission because it was far more realistic than CC, but now that I think back I don't think I ever had more fun with a computer wargame than I did with the original CC2. CC is definitely more gamey (instant airstrikes, very small force density), but who cares as long its engaging and lots of fun.

Don't play the campaigns until the patch comes out. The strategic AI is very unaggressive. There's also a CTD bug on the strategy screen that caused me to lose several turns worth last night.
