[SUGGESTION] Strategic Resource Uses

I've been thinking (oh noes!) some more about how to make it so that the galaxy isn't swimming in resources. I already made one suggestion about having a slider that would effect the resource percentage.

But another idea, that would likely be fairly easy to implement since planets already demand resources, how about if strategic resources were needed for population growth? After all those new homes, energy reactors, etc have to be built from something. This would provide an additional sink for strategic resources.

I made the same request a while ago too [:D]

I think an ideal situation would be two sliders, the above one you mention and a second for resource usage, increase that slider and you need twice or three times as many resources as what you usually need for everything.

What's the problem with the resources? Is there too much in the universe? Perhaps you could make your game more difficult by increasing corruption?

Corruption just hurts your income, less resources would increase competition for resources, make trade more important, make exploration more fun (or frustrating depending on your angle I guess [:D]).
