This scenario is a modified version of tom weber´s Europe diplomacy scenario. It uses Bombur mod units and tech three and incorporates some advances seen in the excellent tom weber´s 1900 diplomacy(like neutral countries and diplomatic takeover). I wouldn´t say this is an alpha version, the game is fully playable. But there is still a lot of room for improvement, and after Grumpy Mel established new standards for WWII European scenarios we are considering some heavy editing....

1933 Beta

Europe 1933 has gone Beta.
Now uploaded to the scenario bank is version 3.10.

Basically this is a hybrid scenario. It uses the european map (small scale, not like European Theater of Operations) found in the diplomacy scenario. It uses alot of the advances made by Tom Weber in his Diplomacy 1900 scenario.

Air and Navy order of battles are realistic for the major powers (as they where in 1933) thanks to Bombur. This means Germany for instance starts off with a very hampered navy, while Great Britain has a huge navy. Germany has no starting air force, while Italy has a big one.

Major powers are Germany, Italy, Britain, France, Soviet Union, Spain and Turkey. The two latter are really optional players, as they will most likely be strugling throughout the game. There are also alot of neutral countries, that can be taken over.

Taking over a country costs PPs and there are 5 levels of diplomatic relations. The 0th level is no-relation, which is free and every body starts off with this. The 1st level is friendship, and can be achieved with some investment, the 2nd level is closer friendship, and once gained, the country can only be taken over by you, and nobody else. the 3rd level is when an alliance is proposed and discussed, the 4th and final level is a takeover, where all the troops and production centers become part of "your empire".

It is possible to give each other PPs. You can give 25 PPs to any other major power. It is possible to declare wars and make peace. You can also make peace with the minor powers, but only all at one time. Minor countries are all asleep, until attacked. They do not research, unless awakened by an attack. They do not build new troops, unless awakened by an attack.

Research is the standard found in the early bombur v2 mod. That is there are 3 major research categories: Air, Land and Navy. To gain access to specific research, a major research field must be researched. I.e. to gain acess to fighter III, Air 1930-1939 must be researched. The research tree is complex, yet the AI seems to be able to cope.

AI is very limited. The AI will NOT attack at any time. It will not take over countries. If playing solo, it is recommended to try and play Germany & Italy, perhaps with Spain and/or Turkey and setting up house rules for when the other countries would declare war. For instance, if Germany invades Poland, at the end of the German turn a DOW against France and Britain must be executed. Things like that can make the game interesting, but it is better to play at least 3 players. (Germany/Italy, Britain/France, USSR). 5 players can play the game ... and i would think it would be optimal.

Actually it´s possible to have 7 players, but the whole thing is likely to be boring for Turkey and Spain..

version 3.11 of the scenario has been uploaded.

In this upgrade: France recieves an economic boost. This has been done by Upgrading Casablanca, Tunis and Beirut to Large Cities. Lille has been added to the map (as a Large City), and Brest and Cherbourg have been demoted to Ports. This is an 18% increase in the economy of France.

Version 3.12 has been uploaded.
Its a minor bugfix. Well minor unless you have constructed pocket battleships. These where mistakenly given only 0 attacks, and thus where pretty much useless. Other than that, a bit of tweaking with the AI...

EDIT:
A small change was made to the file and it has been uploaded again. This time its version 3.12b.

Version 3.16 has been uploaded.

Several fixes have occured. Among others Trains now use RailCap. Diplomacy is more expensive. Cities no longer start damaged. Workers have been removed. Research is cheaper.

We are doing big changes, there is now a diplomatic block on Germany, which starts with a ridiculous army. The block is removed if Germany invades another country or in 1937, whatever happens before. Countries now have realistic OOB´s (except minor ones)

The recent changes mentioned by Bombur earlier, have now been uploaded to the scenariobank. The current version is 3.22b.

Major changes include ALL NEW OOBs for each major power. And code added that prevents anyone from attacking Germany until 1937, or until Germany attacks another country.

The Change in availabilty of technology is the most complex thing we´ve done to this version.

Basically Bombur sat down and determined when each technology that could be researched was achieved in real life. We then said that two years prior to that it could be researched. Making the game more historic (or as tweber put it, more scripted) than it was before.

Before this change it was possible to research 1950s technology as early as 1935, if a country really set its mind to it.

Not sure if the technology costs are balanced yet. But we will find that out with more playtesting.
