Guys
I haven't heard anything that I haven't heard before. When Mark or Erik commit to a target date *then* you can get excited.

Nope, I can get excited when I hear news that a preview copy is going to sent to the other best wargame forum on the web.
This is a big step forward in the development whether you see that or not.

seconded - looking thru the entire LnL forum here there has never been mention of a deliverable preview of the game for the 'media' to look at. This isnt old news, its the most exciting so far in the development of this game, im as frustrated as the rest, but i do think sometimes Devs could look at comments like yours Gunhawk and think 'shall i finish it today? no b******* ill wait another day, they can wait after that'

My problem with the information that we've recieved over the last couple of weeks has been vague and difficult to decipher. For instance, Erik's statement that "It is being tested, but it is not in what we would call final Beta" is kind of strange as I've never heard of "final Beta testing". I've heard of Alpha and i've heard of Beta, but not "final Beta". Does this mean that the game is in Beta, or is it actually still in Alpha? Is the code that's being sent to The Wargamer to preview in it's Alpha, Beta, "Release Candidate" or Gold stage of development? If it's a Release Candidate, or even better a game that's gone Gold we are in business. If it's still in Beta, or worse yet in Alpha, we may have a long wait. Remember, when it comes to *this* game "shortly" can mean months or even years.
Now, having said that, I would *like* to be optimistic, but I have to remain realistic based on this game's history. So until I hear that the game is at least a "Release Candidate" I'll hold off on joining the cheering section. However, if the game gets released this year I'll be happy to listen to you guys say "I told you so". (-:

Agreed. Between that and the updates on their Facebook page, I'm confident that it will be released at some future point, which is good enough for me.
I'm hoping that if LnL isn't interesting in doing follow up releases, that they sell the code to Matrix so that they can do so.

Don't know about him but all I 'see' is vapourware, just as over the last four years or whatever it is now.

I added a question to the string at The Wargamer forum. I asked Longblade what stage of development the game is in, since a "preview copy" of the code does not necessarily mean a *finished* game. He says that he doesn't expect to see the code for a couple of weeks. Let's see if the answer actually tells us anything concrete.

saw it - like you say lets see what gets sent in the mail - but to declare vapourware when the man is sending preview data to journalists - yeah, righto!!

That's semi-heartening news.
I have to say that this has not been a stellar method of dealing with disseminating information about the game. Initially there were a few different forums, and we were told that the official LnL website was the place to follow the game. That closed, and now...Facebook? How about just using this forum?

It's like playing "wack-A-Mole". We go to a given site and start asking questions about the game and the information starts popping up at another site. We go there and the info pops up somewhere else. Ad infinitum. The quest for information and conclusive answers is like a game in itself. LOL
Anyway I asked some questions at "The Wargamer site" (yes...yet another hole for our game of "wack-a-mole") and it appears that they will receive a "preview copy" in a "couple of weeks". He also added; "usually I see previews in late beta, but I'll find out when it gets here".
So that's about all we know and in a couple of weeks we'll find out more.

The answer from Longblade is: "Usually I see previews in late beta, but I'll find out when it gets here". That looks like it will be in early September.
So it sounds like they'll finish Beta testing within a couple of months. Then it has to be published and delivered. Vaporware? No. By Christmas? I say 50/50 chance.

As you say, let's wait until the 'preview code' gets there 'soon' ("no timelines as of yet""). 'Two weeks', maybe? [;)]
I'm quite happy to be proven wrong BTW.

Here's one from the Dnepr scenario we are currently working on. This one has lots of twists and turns, and is ideal for resolving the bugs in the different nationalities. For example, the Partisans move differently in woods, defend differently (they get better modifiers than the Wehrmacht), and have an ambush capability in ambush. On the other hand, the SS patrol that reinforces the initial bridge defenders have their own benefits.

Looks beautiful, but since your still not finished it looks like you won't be sending the preview copy to The Wargamer any time soon.
