Last Scenario N. Africa Campaign

I have played this last scenario to many times. I get to the last town, and get inundated with enemy armor. My reinforcements come in to late to make a difference.

I keep good overwatch and troop integrity up to the last victory objective, and then get wiped out. I would appreciate any suggestions from you experts out there.

Make sure your Artillery unit survives throughout the last battle.  It is important in clearing the last town's infantry defense by blind fire.
After taking the 2nd to the last town with combined arms, do not rush the last town.
Lure the Tiger to the 2nd to the last town for infantry to ambush it.
The other tanks protecting the last town will not be lured but you just have to take them out with your remaining force.
You can also rush the last flag with fast tanks but make sure no infantry is around.

Do you go anywhere near the fortified hill on the way to the last village? My tip is to avoid it at all costs early if so.

After the second village objective in the west, if I recall correctly, I sent some armor wide to the west behind the third (non-objective) village to draw a counter-attack in and split some armor towards the final objective village hex in two prongs - one direct and the other east.

Of course that where the "boss" lives - the Tiger [:D] How you take that out is as much luck as planning - but take out the Tiger early and you have a chance. It scares easily and I recalled the historical Allied tactic of swarming against heavier armor by sacrificing some to force those heavies into flanking profiles for others.

I won roughly with 6 units left, evenly split between armor and infantry half way up the hill but never actually taking it.

Thanks guys, I will give it a shot.

What were your selections for that scenario. I had two Shermans, 2 25 pdrs, 2 trucks, 2 brens squads, 1 motrar squad, 2 engineer squads, 2 infantry squads, if I remember correctly. Like I said out of the group I took all objectives except the town with the Tiger in it, and lost 1 Sherman to a PZKW IV on the hill objective. I had 5 turns left, but my last Sherman crossed the last road out of the town to the west, and then everything was shot to pieces. Oh well, I was pretty proud of myself up to that point. <G> All my infantry, tanks, guns, were all elite status.

Back to the drawing board.

This goes for most missions were you face the heavier german tanks, but try to ambush them as much as possible. If you know they are coming for you, place one or more tanks right around corners of streets, forests or hedges. Preferably some infantry in a building adjacent to the corner as well. Any german tank that enters such a tile should be killed or end up being supressed at least. And gang up on individual tanks. Don't try to face them all at once. Infantry can be usefull to keep the others occupied (gives the tanks something to shoot at).

Well I finally won the stupid thing. I stayed away from the hill and took the other objectives taking out the Tiger. I used the same force I mentioned above. Ok on to the next campaign.
