i need a new beer and pretzel type wargame
something like PGII or Steel panthers WAW but one that will take advantage of my hardware and OS,in otherwords work without dosbox or a win xp install
i am running win 7 my system is
i7 950 3.27GHz
12 gb ddr3 1600
ati 5770 1 gb
anything new out there I have a ton of matrix and paradox titles but looking for a 2-4 hour quickie

how about battlefield academy...some folks seem to really be enjoying it so far

Yeah, sounds like Battlefield Academy would be right up your alley. 

Battlefield Academy is often called Steel Panthers Lite (Steel Panthers with Panzer General level of complexity)

BA is a very good suggestion.

Also, if you'd like a tabletop strategy game conversion that's beer & pretzels, I'd recommend "Montjoie!" from AGEOD.  It's only $20.  There's a good review about it at Wargamer.com, too.

Edit: Oops! I noticed you mentioned something like PG2. That would be Battlefield Academy, definitely.

i have a ton on my plate right now to much stress and WITPAE, HOI3 and the others like them i own just take to much time right now

For beer and pretzels, Operation Flashpoint should not be forgottened, even if it's kind of dead in terms of upgrades. Fast paced and simple to play, but still fun IMHO. Haven't tried it under Win 7, but maybe someone else has?

Decisive Campaigns looks like beer & pretzels of the better kind. At least the predecessor was quite enjoyable.

FPS? Man, I was dead wrong there. LOL. I meant Flashpoint Germany of course! Sorry about that..... must have been something in that mushroom soup!

Battlefield Academy is the beer n' pretzels PC wargame of the year imo.

Even easier to play than SSG's Carriers at War (my other contender for this thread). It's also been rock solid on release.

I still have not read 1 page of rules - I am half way through the game and stuck in Normandy right now being stomped on by the German AI.

I have also caught myself humming the theme tune at odd times of the day [:D]

In other words - forget the rule book - and keep your hand around the Fosters.

He, if he is British, it probably will be a Fosters. It's more popular in the UK than OZ. Tastes better over there too.[:D]

This is an excellent and under rated game. Won't take up too much time either. I've had a lot of fun with Operation Flashpoint.

Well wargamers need this...

I agree - Battlefield Academy should fit the bill perfectly for you. A second option would be Operation Barbarossa if you want more of a PG style.

I was thinking Storm over the Pacific and Time of Wrath combo?

So... bean5671.. when will we hear who the big winner was?
