Intel does nothing start Case White?

What is the point of Germans buying intel cards on case white in campaign?
Can't see anything that Poles do. I guess you buy it to start Case Yellow and that tells you?
But kind of silly if that is the way it works? I have to be missing something? The card 'free' that tells me about my intel just says I '30%' in the field? But I already knew that? [&:] Would like to know something about the Poles or intentions of SU or Uk.
Thanks

It helps to know which variant the enemy has played, therefore after have paid for it you can get the chance to discover which card has been played (e.g. Somua come from France)
Moreover it helps in the next scenario.

There's the possibility that the Poles will get some kind of variant when you play the campaign... unless you play the historical campaign where no variants happen. The more you raise the difficulty the more variants are possible.
So if you are the challenging campaign, or higher level, the intel cards give the Germans a chance, 30%, to find what variant is going to happen and then they might play a card that helps against that variant. But it's only a chance if it working.... sometimes you don't know whats coming up.....[8D]
EDIT:
Also at the start of Case Yellow you get more intel cards. These will add to any you played before Case White. So there's some incentive not to spend all your PP in one scenario as they carry over to the next one.

Not really played this game seriously yet still bumming around with the manual and the mechanics, how important are these cards, and is it critical to choose the right one?

Cards adds variation, replayability, and most of all flavor.
I think it's a fun mechaninc.

Well if you are playing the campaign on challenging or higher difficulty and you don't buy, because they cost PP's, any intel cards then you might get a suprise when the British land troops at Danzig! just for example. If you do play intel cards you might get a warning that the Brits are planning this and then you can buy a card that lets you mine the straights near Danzig and prevents their landing. But intel is never 100% sometime you play the cards, get no hints and are still suprised.
PP's are used during scenarios as well to buy reinforcement divisions or land paras or etc.. SO it becomes a gamble to spend or not before the scenario starts and also whether to save for teh next scenario start intel cards....
Adds lots of variabliity and replayability.[8D]

Sorry if I have been unclear. Barthheart's answer is quite clear.

Thanks! That helps. I played the Historical campaign, thus no variants from Poles. So this means that no variants for the rest of the operations in the campaign (i.e. Yellow, Sea Lion)?
Thanks Again
