There are several options for every scenario and you can play with the placement of troops using the free placement option.
I played the short Netherlands scenario a few times. The AI has varied sollutions. The AI doesn't always use the same Card options and the main point of attack wil vary.

Do unit's carry over to next scenario? Do unit's gain experience? Can you assign leaders? About how many German leaders can you assign? Thanks.

I Campaign mode the units carry over with their stats and losses, if I understand correctly. Still trying to capture Warsaw, so haven't yet seen this carry over in action!
Leaders are pre-assigned as per the historical setup and you can't change them, as far as I know.

How does it play? smooth and easy, click and off you go, simple as that. But as there is a lot under the hood, it may look simple, it actually isn't, so that depth gives this game a lot of replayability.
I'm still getting clobbered (by the AI yes), so my learning curve will be here for a few weeks.

Several things you need to think about in order to win - I haven't won against the AI yet and I'm on my 4th attempt of the Poland campaign:
1. How to play the Card system to get the best results.
2. Coordination of your limited air power.
3. Where to focus your artillery.
4. Where to concentrate your advance and where to focus on encircling surviving AI units.
Note - the AI will counter attack quite effectively and intelligently, but will also pull units back in many cases. It will also cut off your spearheads and generally gives you a tough fight. Best AI I have seen.

Prob going to have to get this for the Labor Day Weekend..thank god for the modern tech of DL'ing games.
but it does miss something that going to WaldenSoft and looking at the boxes of "Gone Gold" software had. Plus those great manuals like Close Combat 2 had, with a timeline of hour by hour/Day by Day of the Battle..that was so cool.
Anyways..I guess come friday I'll give this title a go.

You won't regret it. Besides, Vic has an outstanding reputation of new scenarios, patches, and improvements, so playability is guaranteed for a looong period of time.
Yeah I do miss going to the shop too, wish they *still* had games like this in the gameshop, but no more alass. I do however always order a physical copy too.... old habits die hard.

I went into the computer game shop this week and there was only one little shelf of PC games over in the corner. It was all Wii and so forth without a single thinking person's game in sight. Very sad really. Or maybe I am just very sad...

Well, I took the plunge. It will be a week or so before I get the box. I buy physical boxed version exclusively now. I know I could have got dd plus delivery but I'm old and patient and need to finish up some other gaming issues before it arrives.
It looked too good to pass up and with all the good press I read, I feel sure I'll be glad I didn't wait.
Also, I must have dreamed I downloaded a Demo of Advanced Tactics but maybe it was another game that looked like AT. It was over a year ago ... maybe 2 years. But I can't find a demo for AT anywhere on the internet via searches ... I have dreamed of wargames before.

I miss WaldenSoft and a few other good chains, were I got Rebel Assault, Panzer General, Xwing, TIE Fighter, 1942 PAW and 1942 PAW Gold, AOD, Close Combat 1 and 2, and a few other good Microprose games like B17(the first sim, not the Hasbro one which isn't near as good..kinda like how Silent Hunter II-IV or is it V now? never lived up to the fun and hours spent with Aces of the Deep.)
Man those were the times. Now all you can find in a Gamestop is alot of Noise and Flash/Bang or Escape from Reality in a Sim/MMO something..if you want thinking strat or tact games..the counterhelp is lost(out of their generation I guess)
yea Hank i know what you mean, I do DD and the Box, I guess I just like having the CD/DVDs on the media shelf next to the PC. Feels more stable and "yours" than data on a HD.

I really could not get into playing Advanced Tactics. It did not seem to flow for me. However I have many other WW2 games some from Matrix and others. This game interests me I just am worried that it is a Advanced Tactics Light. How does this compare to Advanced Tactics and then how about the 6th Army Scenario for AT. Thanks

Me too. Classic WWII war gamers game. If you were SSI fan you would recognize this as a great computer era war-game. I am playing it lots too. The card system is brilliant.

I stopped playing AT after doing some of the work on a big East Front scenario which highlighted some of the game's flaws.
This new game isn't AT-Lite - it's AT-HEAVY! Way better than AT in terms of being a convincing and challenging wargame IMO. I will be buying all of the sequels for this one.
