AI Speed?

Setup options include the ability to slow the AI processing speed to allow it more time to execute better moves. I put it on very slow, figuring I want the best competition possible. But that takes forever.

What AI speed to you play on?

If I set it for normal, is there going to be an appreciable drop off in AI competence?

Thanks.

I played a short scenario against it (normal speed) and I won easily.
Try a low speed at least. (IMHO)

Of course the AI speed depends on the processor but I got the impression that the AI played more competent on my (faster) desktop. Until now I played the same scenario on my laptop. On both machines I used the normal AI speed. So I wonder is every AI speed setting a fixed number of calculations or does it vary (IE that faster machines have beter normal AI due to more calculations)

On my desktop the AI attacked in full force making me work hard on all fronts. It was also very satisfying as I finaly managed to destroy some of the 22nd luftlande division regiments. (Using the 1st army, the 3rd army and the Light Division to attack in full force!)

The only downside with the AI is that every now and then there is a bit of reshuffeling forces. When I move my reserve force to reinforce a penetrated line the AI sometimes pulls back and goes for another part of the line. I would like the AI to press on the original attack. (I'm sure that they will breaktrough if they press on, my reserves are mostly there to help the engaged Corps to pull back)

That sounds like pretty smart AI behaviour to me - the AI can only 'see' the new units in the front line and doesn't know that you are pulling back...?

I also play on Normal.  Maybe I'm a poor player, but the AI is giving me a hard time in Poland playing on am XPS M1730 gaming laptop.  Maybe I need to play on my little office travel laptop to degrade the AI's performance!  lol

No the reinforcements are mostly behind the frontline or are pulled from the other part of the line. The AI then reacts by canceling the attack and moves its formations to the weakend part of the line. ie it sees that the line is weaker on the other side but it ignores that pulling back and making a new attack will cost an extra turn. I'm not into cheating it but I'm guessing that you could fool the AI somewhat using a reserve force that mirrors the main attack
