Withdrawal Symptoms?

Let me first say that this game is a gem. Solid mechanics, historical accuracy and artwork. Congrats to the Devs [:)]

Personally, I am wondering if some of the current players on the forum are in my position.

I read the manual, loaded up the tutorial and then went into a couple of games. I liked the game off the bat, but kept feeling something was missing.

I then realized that no, nothing is missing, it is just it is so well designed and streamlined, that all the ruckus I am used to experiencing in other game design are not here for me to have to remedy. Its like I was on a binge of playing games that have a lot of complexity, which I like, but a lot of that complexity was imposed on me, instead of coming naturally and unimposingly, as it is here in TB:WtP.

I feel I am withdrawing from some kind of bad trip these other games have had me addicted to.

I am loving the simple complexity as well. I feel like I'm actually playing the game as opposed to learning all of the minutiae needed just to make things function and reading through spreadsheets. Don't get me wrong though, I love those detailed games too, but the way this game is sleek and streamlined (and pretty to look at too) yet extremely detailed and complex under the hood simultaneously just about makes me want to do cartwheels. I for one haven't felt as happy about a game purchase such as this one in a long time. [8D]

Yes, it's a pretty slick little game...

I haven't bought an operational game since TOAW I and II...never really cared for them...

But this one is so smartly designed, it is pure joy to play!

Can't wait for work to be over....[8|]

It does have that 'one more turn' appeal. Its getting very late these last few days when I decide to just play a few turns and end up playing the full scenario. [:D]

I'm also discovering hidden depts. Today I learned that you can do an air attack on the enemy airforce. Yesterday I found out about the retreat button which gives the option to choose between a desperate last stand or a cunning delaying action.

I said the same thing about Advanced Tactics...there is an elegant simplicity to the game that allows you to actually PLAY it, without having to wonder what the hell is going on with movement points, combat rounds, supply points, etc., etc. The PBEM games I've had with Advanced Tactics have been fantastic...totally gripping, trying to outmaneuver my opponent, without spending all this time on the deep details...

I have no doubt that this game is the same (and as soon as I get paid I'm going to buy it!).

Retreat button?

Mind you I'm playing the Germans at present and don't intend to retreat!
