Where are the developers?

(Question reinstated due to popular demand [:D] )
Where are the developers? Are they busy developing an expansion? Are they developing an uber patch? Has Blizzard kidnapped them and forced them to play Starcraft II ( A truly horrible fate )?

well, I noticed a thread entitled 'addon' which contained a statement from Eric stating that it would be a while before they could say anything about it. I guess however I could reinstate the question.

Yes, very busy on expansion work, but another update is also in the works. Elliot has his head in the code and I'm unfortunately too busy to really comment much these days. The next 4-6 weeks are particularly crazy in my schedule, but we are here.
Regards,
- Erik

I wonder if this means no further patches until in 4-6 weeks?

I always picture developers after a game goes golden to be hanging in a hangmat in "Hawai enjoying the Margarita's". [:D]

In all honesty I actually heard that developers at the big company's like Blizzard and EA are treated more like slaves. Being forced to try and pump out game after game. You know they have to pump out those yearly NBA titles and such. At any rate I'm sure it's pretty stressful working at a place like Blizzard. Huge titles, looming deadlines, a@@hole superiors, horrible titles you'd rather spit at. That's just what I heard.

Reality: Designers after game release are far busier trying to squish all the bugs beta testers missed, I know from experience.

I think that's how it is with EA, but not sure if it's the same with Blizzard. They take their time.

Chris Taylor is releasing a weekly video blog for his upcoming RTS Kings and Castles. It's quite amusing and also interesting to see an example of how the devs and team progress through conceptual, pre-production, production etc phases of game-making...it's probably not very realistic but gives a bit of a sneak preview into what a company has to do in order to eventually release a game.

I remember several years back, there was some kind of story in the New York Times I think (not sure, I'm not American, so I can't remember exact details) where the wife of a worker at EA was trying to sue the company for breaching some kind of Human Rights Laws. I think she claimed something along the lines of her husbands skin was losing its colour because his working hours were so long he never actually saw sunlight or something, and all he could eat was takeaway delivered to his work and never got to eat a meal at home. EA is well known for abusing its workers. Blizzard has a great reputation as an employer from what I have heard and read...

A lot of it depends on the size of the company as well. Larger corporations tend to be more corrupt in their ways, smaller corporation tend to appreciate their employees more.

thanks for the update, it's just nice to hear those words eric, speculations can always get out of hand,
at least we all know now, a patch is coming within the next several weeks, and work is definitely started on the expansion.
and all developers are hands on with the project, no time for forum updates, which is good, the more there hands on with the project the faster things get done,
but eric did say there still here, meaning there still reading the posts, but with such early stages of development, nothing they say may come true, so best not to say anything just yet,
it was very re-assuring to hear from eric and what he had to say,
we just need to give them 2 maybe 3 months to get the preliminary stages out the way, then they'll no doubt be back,
