A couple of bugs?

First, let me say how much I enjoy this game and look forward to others covering different theatres.

A couple of things that bother me - first - loading a scenario means I usually take half a dozen tries before I actually get a scenario to load properly (usually programme not responding). I'm running Windows Vista on a machine just over a year old so I think it would be up to spec. I try to make sure nothing is running in the background (including virus check, firewall etc.) Is it just me or is anybody else having the same problem? I should add that, once running, the game is fine.
But I can usually spend a good five minutes shouting and swearing at the screen before I get it going (I'm a pretty impatient person).

Second potential bug. I've been playing the Sealion scenario (as the Germans) and I've noticed quite a few times when the British turn is going through its paces, a red artillery icon appearing in an empty sea hex. I'm presuming the icon is indicating a British bombardment....but why an empty sea hex? Seems like a bug to me.

I really like this game and want to see it improve as much as possible so keep up the good work guys.

Hi kvob,

Thats odd. Sorry to hear your having this problem. The load times should be like about 30 seconds max. Usually my load time is like 10-15 seconds. Anyway it should not be 5 minutes.

Please give your full system specs by running a dgdx. I might spot something thats the cause.
tm.asp?m=2540283

Also (somewhat unrelated) for patch 1.02 (not 1.01 thats scheduled for tuesday) i'll see if i can build in a load progress bar. That might at least give some clue about the programm not being dead on slow computers.

Best regards,
Vic

Sorry. I can't figure out how to attach this information so I will have to copy it straight into my post.
Hopefully this is the info you want.

Hmmm. It seems I got it attached after all. It seems I'm cleverer than I thought[:D]

Your system specs are fine. Its not the hardware. I will see if I can do anything to speed things up with v1.02 (probably at most in a few weeks time) but it seems you are the only one who has this problem so far. Dont get me wrong. You shouldnt have this problem, but it might be cause by some specific configuration on you PC that others dont have. At the moment I still do not have a clue what it is that is making the game behave different on your PC.

If I may ask if you check the ctrl-alt-del Taskmaster are there any other applications eating CPU?

Best,
Vic

Thanks for looking into this.

The task manager shows nothing running in the background but I did have a suspicion that it might be my machine because I had seen no other reports here on this problem. Looks like I will have to hope the patch helps or start delving deeper into the guts of my PC.

Once again, thanks for spending the time looking into this [:)]

A good five minutes you say? My loadtime takes 30 seconds or so.
Is it maybe a memory thing? Can't exactly see how much you have, could you check your mem-usage history after the loadscreen?

Don't know if this is quite what you are looking for but I've noted memory usage in 3 different states (Desktop, Main Menu and during loading of a scenario)
All figures in Mb

At Desktop

Physical Memory
Total 3325
Cached 2728
Free 54

Kernel
Total 146
Paged 96
Non-paged 49

At Game Menu
Physical
Total 3325
Cached 2728
Free 18

Kernel
Total 152
Paged 101
Non-paged 51

Loading scenario (Sealion)

Physical
Total 3325
Cached 2625
Free 0

Kernel
Total 158
Paged 108
Non-paged 51

Hope this is helpful

@kvob,

I think the fact that your free memory start awfully low and drops to 0 is slowing things down. I will see if I can increase freeing up memory with v1.02.
Thanks for the info again.

Vic
