Using the Editor there is a field for a date "Withdraw 1/2" with selection buttons to the left (1 & 2). I am not sure how the game uses this field. Can anyone tell me?

I am looking for a way to scale down the size of a BF after the war front retreats.

It’s in the Editor Manual at 3.6.1
If ‘1’ is set, when the unit withdraws, all devices go into the dumpster. This represents entire units (men and equipment) being withdrawn to another theater, fx.
If ‘2’ is set, when the unit withdraws, devices go into their respective pools. This represents cannibalization of units where men and material are held in-theater for subsequent use in-theater.

You could withdraw one BF and introduce another smaller one, but that takes a lot of LCU “lines” and is unacceptably (imho) hard-and-fast; and you still have to move the new small BF to where the old large BF was – thinking that may turn out to be a real pita for you and force an undesirable change where you may be looking for flexibility.

Or you could just have a BF “upgrade” to smaller version in a TO&E flow (lots of open TO&E slots). If things are still ‘hot’ somewhere, then just turn “upgrade” off for BFs in those places and keep them big. Want to scale down somewhere, just turn “upgrade” on for those units. This will not affect the normal device upgrades. Squads, guns, and bears (oh my!) will still still evolve; it’s just the TO&E that won’t move. Much more flexibility, although it requires a bit more administrative "clicking".

Ciao. J

JWE: thanks.  Means I've been on the right track already.  Using TOE for a lot of units as the war move on.  THANKS1
