Hi,
I've had 2 fatal errors over about 16 hours of playing the game. One happened when I merged a moving army with an army conducting a siege then tried to assault the city. The other just happened randomly. Also autosave doesn't seem to be working correctly. The only autosave I had was a day old and I'd played much since then.
My request though is that you immediately start work on a game later in the Roman empire period when Roman expansion is occurring and the Barbarians start to whittle away the empire. The system is great and I'd love to see a bigger game where you can play the Romans.
Thanks!

Hi,
Well, naturally I am perturbed to hear about the game crashing. Can you post a crash report for either or both crashes? I am very sorry about this, of course.
Now for the auto-saving problem, may I ask: did it fail to save after you shut the game down normally? The auto-save is in fact made when you shut the game down. It doesn't periodically save, although maybe it should. If you played and then, unfortunately, crashed, the auto-save would not kick in.
I am of course very sorry about the crashes and I will recheck the code for the problem with storming. If the game left a report on your desktop that is very helpful, of course. Your desktop is where the game will leave the report unless something went wrong at a very low level. Then there may or may not be an error file at the root of the game's installation.
P.S. The next game that we do will allow you to play both sides and will have multi-player as well. The precise period hasn't been determnined but a game in which you can play the Romans is very much in my mind.

crash report at bottom.
Auto save - it is probably working if it only saves when you exit game. I thought it saved periodically.
Next game - bigger map, more units - all of eurasia please.
Thx

jj.. you can use the 'S' key to bring up a save dialog in the game without having to go to the menu. You can also hit F5 to make a quick save.

I have identified the source of one of your crashes and I have explained it in this thread:
tm.asp?m=2583584
I'll repeat the work-around here: don't escape the "Romans are moving to intercept your fleet" animation. And, again, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. You should be able to shorten/escape that animation. But right now that causes a problem.
I am still looking into the other error. If you can post a crash report for that one it can help. And thanks for your patience. I know it's a hassle when a game crashes.

I lost my game on the "Romans are moving to intercept your fleet" bug, and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be ANY autosave in my directory (there definitely used to be). Please take a look at the autosave feature and see if it is updating appropriately.
A little frustrating to lose an hour of play, but I wasn't doing a very good job of generaling anyway.

Loving the game!

Well the auto-save feature is working as it was designed, but it's not doing enough for some players. It will have to be updated to help players keep more of their game in the event that something bad happens.
The real problem is, of course, that the game should never crash but the players have found at least one prominent bug that we failed to identify during testing. And that is the real source of the trouble. Really, the auto save is just to keep the current game going if the player forgets to save before exiting. At least, that was my intention. I do see now that it could do more for you.
I am glad that you are enjoying the game and I certainly hope that we don't find any more common bugs to detract from that.
