Ok im running 7.1 version of spwaw.Love the game but for some reason when ever i really start whipping *** on tanks, say i blow up like 3 or 4 in a row with op fire. The game will drop me to windows to the spwaw startup menu. Not the game's itself menu but the first one with the game links and such.Im running a clean windows 98 sysyem on a Amd k6 350 128 mb's ram and a good video card.I can run much more demanding games on my system so i dont think its a hardware compatible issue.i hope its something that can be fixed.id hate to have to go back to the 'other game".thanks

:)

I can't help you on this, but for suggesting you to check the
Tech support by gamers for gamers Forum.
There's the place where problems of this nature are addressed and hopefully solved.
I remember this "bumping back to another screen" problem comes periodically out, so maybe the solution is already written in there.

No, stay here I will help. That way I don't have to jump forums to help you. Please post complete system spec's to included DirectX version. Is 7.1 a new clean complete install or an upgrade from previous version? Try running the game directly from the mech.exe file located in the MatrixGames\SPWAW directory, this bypasses the autorun menu which is a memory hog. Make sure you don't have any other programs running in the background, becuase of SPWAW's old game code it uses 100% CPU usuage. Do you have a sound card? Make sure all of your drivers are up to date especially the video card. Try turning off all sounds in the preference screen and see if this helps. If these haven't help go in the MatrixGames\SPWAW\save directory and delete the steel.prf and holder.txt(if you have one) files and then restart the game. The game will automatically recreate the steel.prf file (holder.txt is not needed) when you adjust anything in the preference screen. How much free HD space do you have left? Does it always happen or just in certain scenario's or campaigns and or the same country(which could point to a corrupted OOB file) Are you running a SB live sound card if you have one?

in addition to turning off your antivirus, make sure to shutdown OTHER unneeded programs in your system tray, like scheduler, icq, msn messenger, etc because these can rob system memory....alot of system memory, as well as cpu cycles. save frequently !! I have seen this problem when saving-loading-saving-loading with MANY iterations.
