can't read text

I have bought a new computer (with an ATI card). The game runned fine on my old one. Now the texts (units' names, leaders' names, infos about units, ...) are distorted and almost unreadable.
I have a lot of difficulties to read all the written infos needed to play the game.
What could i do ?
I have tried to run the game in windowed mode, to change the various properties of the .exe file. It doesn't improve the situation.

Thanks for any help.

Try to do something like that:
Open: HorseNMusket.ini in notepadand change
FontName=Georgia
FontName33= Georgia
FontFileName= Georgia.TTF
to ex. Arial

Thanks for the info - I followed this advice and found it very useful. for me the text was improved by changing the font to Arial. Thanks again.

Finally got this game and I found it lot of fun.

Thanx for the font tip. I found it very useful because Georgia font is somehow hard to read (at least for me). I prefer some older Windows fonts like Tahoma and Verdana, or some newer ones, like Calibri. Because the game uses .INI file to load default font, it is pretty easy to find your best setting with little experimenting.

To check installed fonts on my computer I use this free utility CFont Pro – it will provide you a lot of useful information, lot more then the Windows system interface used to display fonts (the one in Control Panel --> Fonts).

The other issue is terrain and unit graphics. Well, not so the terrain graphics, I found default terrain acceptable, and Sarge & Magnus alternative textures are great, but I wish for some future updates, unit graphics made sharper since there is no 2D view. I am aware the game has its roots in the past decade but for this type of games you don’t actually need the latest ATI/NVIDIA megabucks monster with zillions of RAM – just some old-fashioned/outdated but sharp graphics. I have Win7 installed and I am having a terrible time getting any font to look good enough to read. I tried Arial, Times New Roman, Georgia, and trying more later. Any suggestions?

I tried windowed mode too but it helped none.

Try Ariel UPS. AriaL

I'm using Cfont Pro to view my font files (arial.ttf) and my Win7 does not show an Ariel, only Arial, and no Arial UPS file?

Oh, like "oops." OK. Now I understand. [:)] Anyway, Arial does not make it better.

Hello LarryP! Have you tried Calibri? Other possible candidates may be some other newer Microsoft fonts like Candara and Corbel. Or even Consolas – monospaced font.

Generally, for screen reading it is better to use sans-serifs fonts. Sans-serifs are fonts without any additional "ornament" used on the glyphs like in traditional serif fonts – Times New Roman, Garamond or Georgia.

I've tried every font you mentioned. Thanks for your input though. I appreciate it.

Whatever font you choose, try turning off ClearType text in the Fonts section of the Windows 7 Control Panel.

I wish that would work but it didn't.
