I am pretty certain the Chinese war theoretician Sun Tzu said something like this: "commanding a lot of people is just like commanding few people. It's all about organisation". But of course he never commanded the US 3rd/5th Fleet on 1944-1945, so... [:D]

I seem to remember reading somewhere when I was a youngster, that at the end of WW2 the US Navy was 5x larger than all other countries navies combined. Not sure if that was accurate but even if it was close that is ugly ( for their enemies ).

What does the number between brackets mean after a commander's name? is this their seniority?

By the way, I intend my opponent's OOB to be somehwat smaller at this date!

He would also point out that using the appropriate strategy, even the largest army can be defeated by a small force. Of course the Japanese didn't have the right strategy.
