F4 key for placement working in PZ:O?

For me, and many others it seems, the F4 key never worked correctly in PZK for random campaigns, although it did work correctly for the set battles.
Does anyone know if this has been fixed?

I'm not sure if it's been 'fixed'.
More than likely it wasn't understood.
The F4 key allows you free placement in any vs the AI game.
If you are playing PBEM it doesn't.
That's the way it works now. Not sure if that's 'fixed' or not but I know it works that way in PCO.
Good Hunting.

Never tried a PBEM game, but it most certainly does not work for any random campaign for me (and others) in PZK. Here's an old post regarding the subject:
tm.asp?m=1780900&mpage=1&key=placement?
Can you test a random campaign to see if it works? I'm not asking you to play a whole campaign, just create a quick one, and then test the first set-up phase and see if you are limited.
Edit--It doesn't seem to work in
any campaign, random or not.

I tried Hell's Gate. Still has a limit of 250m. F4 doesn't change it.

You tested this on the pre-release of Ostfront, right?
Is this something that can be fixed before the release?

I just used it for Urrah and it worked. So, we'll have to see what may be happening.
Good Hunting.

Judjing from the picture you posted in post#4 of your AAR, you are playing a scenario, not a campaign. The problem seems to occur only in campaigns.

I have assumed that the F4 key only works for Set battles by design. For campaigns, I assumed the key was disabled intentionally so that the Campaign designer could have more control of the initial force placement. There is also supposed to be a mechanism to prevent you from moving "too" close to enemy units, though I don't know what that term means in terms of actual distance.
In addtion, in scenario made with the latest Scenario Editor, the designer can "fix units in place" so that they can not be moved during the setup phase at all.
Thanks,
Rick

The F4 set-up seems to me a very useful feature with some of the crazy default set-ups. I think it can only be used against the AI anyway, so there's no way of *cheating* a human player, correct?
Besides, it is totally optional and would be a nice choice to have, like Combat Mission's "Free to Place Units" or staying with the default set-up option. A campaign designer could recommend whether or not to use F4 for set-up, of course.
If it can't be implemented before the release, then maybe as a later patch? I just don't think it should be wholly disregarded.
Please don't misread my request: I don't want to come across as demanding. When I read about all the new features, I was blown away, thinking that someone had read my mind on how to improve the gameplay. I'll continue to support the game, but I also will attempt to make my recommendations known.

It is even worse when you have a random on a 2kx2k map with an ATG in the corner.

I'm sure it will be considered, I just dont know if it will be changed. I know the design team appreciates comments and suggestions for ways to improve the game.
Thanks!

You will be (maybe?) happy to know that setup zones have been added.
MR is adding them to his scenarios. Whether or not that is going to allow you freedom is yet to be seen [:D]

The rules for F4 in PCK are:
Only for set battles against AI.
Not for:
PBEM
Campaign games.
Why?
Because you can use it to cheat otherwise.
Anyway with the new setup zones system the scenario designer has so many options about how units will be deployed like.
1. Use the old system
2. Use the zone system (define pretty much any zone shape you want)
3. Units can be designated fixed at startup and can't be moved (if that is the scenario designers intent).

To add to the above, the designer can also place a unit outside of the zone. The player then has the choice to leave it where it is or move it to a zone.
