Uh oh, Hasdrubal

Well, after 20 turns I had to settle for an unhappy peace. On the last turn Rome blitzed into Northern Italy and the rest is history.

Around turn 17 this game was over in terms of any decisive victory but the fun up till then was nice.

-Hannibal and Mago cutting bait and bolting for southern Italy and trapping an "11" strength Roman army in Bruttium
-Fending off Roman African adventures (AI attacks Utica and plays "Numidia Deserts" at the same time, the AI thinks ahead!)
-Winning one naval battle that allowed me to reinforce Spain (after getting my clocked clean several different times) and keeping control for the entire game
-Those "Roman Solidarity" card plays which foiled my Neopolis and Rhegium gambits

Frustration and elation.

Ouch. That looks like it could hurt.

The Gauls are tough, but not that tough.

Has anybody seen the AI play a card called Drunken Gauls or something like that? It can't be played against Hannibal, but I once had a crappy Carthaginian general, Hanno or someone, with a bunch of Gauls on the battlefield, and then the AI played the card and my Gauls decided they had better things to do than to fight for some Punic guy. A nasty surprise, but fun too. [:D]

Yep. Doesn't it eliminate like four Gallic units right then & there or something to that effect? [X(]

Can't remember the exact number, but it sure was enough to make Hanno lose the battle. And made me understand some of the pain those Roman consuls must feel when I devastate their armies with Punic Tricks. [:)]

Ha! I've never seen the Drunken Gauls card.  The Roman Solidarity card(s) was a surprise to me.
