I am hoping someone can help me or offer some glimmer of hope here. When my friend and I try to play a 2-player Forge of Freedom game across an Internet connection, nothing happens. We disabled all anti-virus and firewall programs, and still nothing. When you click to join the hosted game, it just dies, like you never gave the command. No lock up, no error message, just nothing. I have read about the problems with this game due to the programming being intertwined with DirectPlay 4. But I am just wondering – is there anything else we can try to get this to work? Rolling back or changing a setting, downloading a fix, using a VPN, etc? Anything? Has anyone had any success getting this game to work online using Windows XP? Any advice anyone can offer here is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nick

I know several people have reported that using Hamachi to create a virtual LAN between two computers over the Internet gave them stable connections.  You may be able to try that software; I believe it is all free.
