Check Lists

Hi Admirals,

Playing the grand campaign can be a daunting prospect for anyone so do any of you have a check list of tasks you perform for each set of orders. I suspect I'll end up constructing a check list over time but any hints will help prevent that 'oops I forgot to check that' sort of a moment.

Check lists...hmmm...  I would suggest using WitP Tracker for one so you have information organized in an easier to use format.

I use Microsoft OneNote to keep notes. Most important part is a to-do list which I check every turn. It is organized by regions (China, India, DEI, ...). Other pages include screenshots, or snippets from the manual and forum threads.

Also, I use tracker, especially the alerts section.

Checklist for a someone new to the grand campaign
 
Not playing Japanese- check
Notifying significant other of requirement to spend 2 days on first turn and then 1-2hrs per night on remaining- check
Buying flowers/other type of gift to apologise for point 2- check
 
Seriously.
 
Check op's report for new reinforcements or damaged ships/action where changes are required
Check known task force key points to micromanage loading/unloading
Start and work east to west or vice versa
Remember to check air groups on training every couple of weeks to harvest pilots

You need a system, something that you will do regularly every turn to avoid missing something important.
Here is how I play my turn, from first to last thing:

- Press "S" to list ships, sort by float damage (fastest way to see if some of your subs got hit by air ASW, also helps a lot after naval engagement).
- Scroll map to the the Indian ocean and scroll through all areas where I have subs (Indian ocean, Australia, New Guinea, SRA, Japan, Pacific) hover with mouse over every sub to see if it was detected. If it was move it.
- Press "O" and check the list, especially for ships that finished repairs or can't be repaired, TFs with not enough fuel, bases conquered, facilities expanded, new units and ships that arrived.
- Scroll map to SE pacific area and start playing turn. I always have the same order, Pacific, Australia, New Guinea, Philippines, DEI, Malaya, Burma/India, China, Japan. That makes a full circle and helps not miss anything important.
- After orders are done check replacements, bring in additional pilots and planes into squadrons, upgrade idle squadrons and ships if available (I do this last in order to avoid upgrading something that might be needed in some area nearby in the same turn).
- Look at training and industry (if Japan)

I made myself an excel spreadsheet to help keep the Japanese industry where I need it. Guess that could qualify as a checklist.

Put in all my industry stats and it outputs:

How many of what type engine I need
How much HI I need
how much fuel, resource, oil and supply I need
how many refinery I need

Basically, before I commit to a change, I run it into the spreadsheet and see if I can afford it.

Say I want to up zero production to 150/month. I go to my A6M2 slot, put it in, and it tells me how many engines I need, and how much HI it will cost me if I do it. Very handy to keep things from getting out of hand.
