Port size for repairs

My Lexington took a torpedo hit and put into Sydney (size 9 with 30 repair points) for repairs. The report says that it can't repair past a certain level. Where am I supposed to do the rest of the repairs. The only port that is size 10 is the Eastern USA. Do I really need to go all the the way over there to complete the repair process?

All the other West Coast ports are Size 9 too but have different repair yard sizes/points. How can I tell which one will be able to finish the repairs to Lady Lex?

Lexington is way over 30 000t, which is the limit of Sydney or any Australian shipyard. You need to get her to Colombo (40k) or Pearl to have shipyard that can fit her in.

If she has Major flotation damage, you need large enough shipyard to have it repaired. She won't fit into 30k shipyard.

Thanks very much for the quick reply!  But how do you know that Sydney is 30k and Colombo 40k in size?  Is it in the manual somewhere that I seem to have missed?

See section 14.2.3.1 of the manual. (Page 244)

Repair Yard capacity is the Shipyard size, times 1000.
Sydney is a size 30 Repair yard, so it can handle a ship of 30,000 tons.

Shipyard size x 1,000 = tonnage you can repair in it.

Edit- emu'd!

Repair shipyards x 1000 is the tonnage capacity for repairs.
Sydney has 30 repair yards, Colombo has 40, Pearl has 100.

The manual works, but also the icons along the bottom of the base info screen which tell you the various industrial capacities for any base. Allied players almost never click on them, but they're there.

To Colombo and Pearl, I would add Cape Town as a likely shipyard. It has the advantage of a much safer transit from Sydney, across the south of Oz to the map edge, than a foray at slow speed across the middle of the map to Pearl, or the long one north past Java and Sumatra air bases. Just avoid the Bass Strait north of Tasmania. There lie submarines . . . Go around the long way.

I keep these straits well patrolled with my best ASW assets, so you're right. A lot of IJN Subs lie there. [:D]
