The general intent of initial landing forces is shown below.
Unlike my previous Iwo Jima foray, I intend to use the troops with restraint, and hold back the larger landing forces of the 1st and 2nd Division Marines until needed.

It's very successful. You'll be raiding all your old Nick Fury/Sgt Rock collection for vignettes, I assume.

Is that typeface VTC Letterer Pro?  That's the nearest equivalent I can find in my library but it's not quite.....

Nope it's called comic book, and I think I got it from dafont.com
the 'albama tick' reference was from Jesse Ventura in Predator.

-apologies for not getting back into this but I've been map and unit modding for Time of Fury.
(-and converting the mod back for TOW.)

I will get back to this one eventually.
I like the small scenario's where FOW is set to 1 hex.
(makes it more "junglely")

Fresh from a graphic mod makeover, I return to continue the grind through the island of Okinawa.
I begin to break the 1st defensive line, but can see there will be many more defensive positions to get through.
The arrival of some armour has helped smash a couple of units.

This really is a game of "just one more turn".
Almost forget this was being uploaded.
Much fighting has gone on.
The battle southward has been a bloody slog.
Progress has been slow, and had it not been for the 20th Armoured Group, my infantry would have been slaughtered try to take out embedded Jap armour.
Movement is also restricted by rear units unable to leap-frog front line troops. While frustrating, it makes staging assaults more contemplative.

Man this is tough.
Shuri fell, but only through a combination of coordinated land attacks and a massive repeated air assault.
There is still no guarantee that it will be held.

While up north, Japanese defence has capitulated.
Only annoyance has been 'partisan' units forming out of the jungle, which has occasionally disrupted supply.

(this pic showing my 'guns of august' unit mod)

For a while I started to get cold feet.
Sending so many men to their deaths.
Units sent into the salient were quickly surrounded and quite literally put to the sword.
It has been trench warfare.
Again, if not for the tanks this game would have gone pear shaped much earlier.
The outcome known.

My supplies are down, the carrier crews close to exhaustion.
Bombardment has little effect on the fortified positions.
So it is grubby hand to hand, foxhole to foxhole.
and yet, their lines look as though they are beginning to thin...

Image
East of Shuri, the line has held steadfast.
We push toward Naha and beyond to the airfield, to fortunately less fortified positions.
