Looks like you are backtracking into War Plan Orange territory with these!

Good to see Asahi getting some attention, but if you'll forgive me for being critical, I think you have her still looking too much like her battleship incarnation rather than as a repair/depot ship. For that you need to suppress the forward stack and main battery, and immediately abaft the mainmast add a deckhouse that could easily be mistaken for an aft-facing bridge. Booms slung off main- and foremasts rather than off a separate kingpost would complete the picture.

If you've seen the port side view of her in Jentschura you'll be aware of the prominent lifting frame she carried amidships on that side. Jentschura has it that these frames were fitted on both sides, but I have a photograph taken from starboard in which the corresponding frame for that side is nowhere to be seen. Moreover, the shot shows what appears to be a gun turret in the position of the original 'A' turret, but of substantially smaller calibre - the appearance of this is reminiscent of the 6" batteries fitted to the Mogamis as light cruisers, but in reality was probably a smaller calibre weapon.

Mmm... so far I've only been doing artwork for some additional Japanese merchant ships, but this is encouraging me to turn my hand to some more warships too - thanks!

There's a not very good shot of her here at the Naval Historical Centre, and an interesting Wikimedia Commons view from her starboard quarter showing two lifting frames on that side.

Still trying to locate the source of the photograph taken on her starboard beam. If anyone knows the photograph I mean, it's the one with a Kuma class light cruiser in the background.
